When we get to NZ, my 12 yr old son will have had some fixed braces fitted.
Does anyone know how we will stand, as far as another dentist taking on this work.
He will need them adjusted regularly and they may have to stay on for about 1 year.
What if any are the costs?
Mant thanks

Hi. You might want to consider getting the braces fitted in the UK as orthodontic treatment for children isn't free here and they are any thing from $2000 to $5000.
Although they do let you pay in instalments !

Westi, He will probably have them done here.
But they need regular adjustments and I wondered how we were fixed???
Maybe I could go to Nicola's husbands place of work when they arrive?????

I will tell Peter to expect you. Although we are not taking any appointments until October! :laugh
He is just my partner at the mo, he will not be my hubby until June 25th if he behaves himself.

Hi Jan
I have a 14year old daughter who has had a brace for 18mths now, we have just moved to havelock north, hawkes bay. Last week i took my daughter to the ortho in hastings, i can tell you i came out with one very upset teenager. He told us that the teeth are worse than when they started, (we took all xrays and moulds with us) he insists that she needs two teeth removing (two very healthy strong teeth) Then he proceeded to tell us that he could have her teeth looking great within a year. As you can imagine i was furious to say the least, how could our ortho in holland of made such a mess of things. He is one of the best orthodontics in limburg where we lived, all her friends had their teeth corrected by him, our dentist referred us to him and his waiting lists were long to say the least. Anyway to cut a very long story short he wants to take out two healthy teeth and start treatment from scratch. Now i ask is this a way of him making money, (didnt even touch that topic but just recieved a bill for 130dollars for his time) or is it just a different approach, i can not believe her teeth are worse, she visited the ortho at least once a month in holland, and had a check up at our dentists before we left, only to be told how much her teeth have improved. My daughter as you can imagine does not want two teeth out, she wants the braces off now asap, not sure where to go from here. My advice to you would be to try and get all the treatment done in britain by the same person.

Oh no...
How sad for your daughter. I am afraid i am quite a fanatic when it comes to mine and my kids teeth.
He is only just about to have the fixed braces applied so we have quite a way to go.
God blimey what are you going to do??? Which teeth does he want to extract??
Expensive but what about another Dentist's opinion?
Let me know how you get on.

I agree with Jan ask around if you can and find another orthodontist for a second opinion.
If she does have to have the teath out at the end of the day. It is worth it in the end. I lost 3 healthy adult teath for the same reason, and I am so glad now that I did.
Good luck and I hope it will all work out for you.

hi FEMKE, There do seem to be two approaches to this teeth/jaw business. our eldest daughter had an overbite, went the conventional way with having 4 good teeth taken out and wearing a brace for several years only to have everything pretty much revert to what it was before, another friend who wore a brace a few years later didnt have the teeth removed and the dentist there concentrated more on retraining the jaw to line things up. I don't know which is best but it does seem daft to remove good teeth to me. Would think that perhaps it may be worth connecting the original dentist and seeing if there is a treatment name/description and then phoning round and finding one that uses the same method. Seems to me that it an oposite approach to things that is the main problem.
