I thought I'd read that NZ stores really don't take AmEx. Just Visa or MasterCard?

I also have an Amex and hope to move it across - I have read on another non related forum that you ring Amex up and they refer you for opening an account out in NZ. I've not got around to calling them yet - will do now and see if anyone has a clue there

Update - as I thought - told to call NZ Cust Services! But told it is possible just to transfer the account over.

So it is possible then to transfer the balance of CC if it is visa or master right??

I would hope that's right, otherwise you're surely getting charged for the relevant exchange rate too if they're still based in your home country !?!

Stevieboy - Amex will do a "Global Transfer" for your card. ie they will guarantee that you can have an Amex card over here. However, you have to go through all the application procedure again and send certified photo ID as well! (Go to local Police station to do this free - they're used to doing it!)
I was told there is NO way to transfer the balance between countries - luckily mine was at only GBP 80, so not a problem for me.
Amex is accepted widely in Auckland - been here 8 weeks now and not found anywhere that does not take it yet.
