Hi!
I'm planning on meeting hubby & little'un in Auckland when they finally finish their cruise. We need a hotel for one night only, since we will be travelling down to Welly the day after.

Can anyone recommend a nice hotel close to the docks / railway station please? My only experience of Auckland is the inside of the airport...

Thanks,
Jane

Check out Heritage Hotels (http://www.heritagehotels.co.nz/) for Auckland, they have two there.

Stayed at both, the City Life one is on Queen Street and the Heritage one isn't far away either.

Check out the Last Minute rates for a good deal, if you can't get this cheap rate, would probably look for elsewhere.

Loads of reviews say that the City Life one is the best one, but we preferred the Heritage hotel personally. It is also very close to the sky tower so you can go there on the evening (City Life one isn't much further).

I've stayed at the City Life and it was lovely - v handy for you as well. We booked through www.wotif.com, which I always find quite good for cheap rates.

Definitely check out wotif for hotel prices, but for Heritage hotels definitely compare with their last minute rates as well, last time I checked wotif wasn't as cheap as going direct.

Great site and thanks for the link... only downside is you're limited to booking within 28 days of your planned arrival... I guess that's why they can do good rates.

I also recommend the Heritage - managed to get a great rate direct from their website. We stayed in a suite (which includes a kitchen and washing machine) in the tower, which is connected to the main part of the Heritage by walkway. It was actually only a few dollars more per night than a motel.

Sorted.... I've booked us into the Heritage on Queen Street. Thanks for the suggestions everyone :)

Now, how far is that from (a) the harbour, and (b) the railway station?

Cheers,
Jane

I tend to use Wotif more as a reference, as I always contact the hotel directly by email as well, to see what rate they will give me, and they have beaten Wotif everytime, plus I can confirm all the little things like cots etc.

Cheers

The Heritage is on Nelson St, not Queen St. City Life is on Queen St, is it this one?
From CityLife it's about 3 minutes walk to both the harbour and the trainstation. Although this does depend on which part of the harbour you are wanting - the ferry terminal is opposite the Britomart. The viaduct is about another 2 minutes walk down the street.

From Heritage on Nelson St it would be about a 5 minute walk to the Britomart and ferry terminal, and less to the viaduct.

To be honest, that's exactly what we've done for all the accommodation we've booked for our 3 week 'recce' trip in April... we've also used www.innz.co.nz as a point of reference for hotels ;) ... you can't beat approaching the hotels direct, far better service as well :)
