Hey Everyone,
I will be relocating to Wellington in a few weeks
(I’m Irish but have lived/studied in Australia for the past 3 years)
anyway I’m hoping someone can give me some info on jobs
in the creative industry.

I’ve worked for event companies-
production management / set design/ props etc and
have just completed a diploma in visual art majoring in digital photography.

I have a friend from Wellington who’s now living in Ireland who told me
to forget about finding a job in any creative capacity as
competition is rife and openings are hard to come by
(plus I’m told wages are crap :uhoh Any advice would be really appreciated.
Thanks!

Creative industries are on NZIS identified areas of future growth. Film work (particularly CGI artists) is in the skills shortage category. There must be some jobs there. But it's a small market so it wouldn't take much to flood it.

bear in mind that due to writers strike in the states, it has affected companies that are contracted for overseas work on films..weta is having to suspend some operations and therefore staff contracts at the moment.

there is work here in the areas you specified, you just have to get to know people...its a small but productive industry here in wellington.
the arts festival is on in a couple of weeks and the fringe is on currently.
