Thought I share this with you all - on Waitangi Day our 3rd little cutie was born here in Auckland at the North Shore hospital. Really great experience as I'd arrived here too late in pregnancy to organise a midwife. So I just went to the hospital for all my antenatal care and turned up Tuesday night when things got a bit more pressing:D
The midwife and staff were great, really professional, very helpful. Had my own room, nobody was rushing to get me out of the hospital, on the contrary. They have their own lactation consultant which I'm always in dire need of. I lived in the UK previously and had my other 2 there (NHS) and was quite happy with the level of care received. This, however, was fantastic!

Big Congratulations! :D :clap
I had my third at North Shore also, a couple of weeks after Park City Partner (her thank you note was still pinned to the maternity ward pinboard!).
So that makes 3 of us now!
Glad everything went smoothly, enjoy your new bundle of joy!
Cheers

Good to hear it all went well.
We should get together for a round of 'passport snap', I'm assuming you have a collection now not dissimilar to ours (we have 16 between the six of us...) :)

Yes, I thought it was great too. I had lactation issues so spent a lot of time with both lactation consultants at North Shore...and after they double teamed me twice we finally got things going a bit....though I had more problems once I left and hired another private one as well...who was great so if you need hre name, just pm me.
Congrats!

Am very much touched by all your kind wishes, thanks a lot! Ok, details, it's a boy, Damien Ray, 3.805 kg, 51 cm, a record breaking 4 hours of labour at hospital (and a fairly mild afternoon at home). Usually I'm rather slow, hours and hours of natural labour, lovely. That's what I meant by staff expertise because the midwife could tell the signs and made me overthrow all my well set birth plan wishes which spead things up nicely. As to cute pictures we only have the shrivelled up baby, red faced mum variety which we haven't managed to transfer yet. Will post some though once it's done. Feeding is going fairly well. Am cheating with nipple shields. Until I've seen another lactation consultant, won't let little biter anywhere near the real thing. Will call up Maternity Associates to arrange something. They apparently do 2 hours sessions with you. Also ruthlessly making use of dummy as I'm not a mobile pacifier! As to gory details, found it a bit unnerving that hubby stood at the wrong end and saw everything which during previous births was mercifully hidden by a birthing pool, hmmm.

Congratulations ! My wife has an estimated 2 weeks to go before our second kiwi arrives touch wood. We were very impressed also with the maternity services. A word of warning though - you only get 1 free scan in NZ now; if like my wife you have a complicated pregnancy it can get very expensive ! Think we've had to spend about 300 dollars on scans so far ...

Crazy. As a student midwife, that is a bit un-nerving. I wish you the best with you new arrival.
