We've already posted a few questions and had fantasic responses, so thought we'd better introduce ourselves!

We're Sam (25) & Andy (32) from Bristol in the UK, and we're hoping to settle (anywhere!) in NZ.

Andy will be the main applicant as he is an industrial door engineer. We wrote to approximatly 50 companies over xmas and have had loads of positive responses, and should hopefully have a job offer coming through any day now.

Which is just as well as we leave on the 5th March!!!! I'm (Sam) going over on a WHV and Andy on a tourist visa, and we plan to apply for a permit for him once we're there.

We actually get married on the 1st March and leave 4 days after - crazy or what?! But we figured there will be no better time to give this as we have absolutly no responsibilites what so ever! I'm in awe of people who go through the immigration process with kids, elderly parents even pets as we're finding it stressful enough with just he 2 of us!

We spent 2 months in NZ last year (Andy has lived there previously) and made up our minds after speaking to imigration agents who said that we'd be able to do it. However, having read a few posts on here we've decided not to sign up with the agents and give it a go ourselves....so expect a lot of questions being fired in the near future, especialy as our points are borderline - 100/105 if we're lucky - eeek!

Welcome both!
What part of Bristol are you from ?
We lives there for 8yrs when we first got married, firstly at Bradley Stoke North, then Emersons Green, and we loved it. We then moves home to South Wales when we had our little boy as didnt want to put him in childcare all day!
We have been out here now for nearly a year and we love it.
Good luck with everything, it will all come together i am sure!

If you are planning to not go back to the UK try and sort out as much paperwork as humanly possible before you go. Things like the Police clearance take a month to come through and are easier to apply for when you are there. Plus you need to get job references from past employers. Having all of this stuff in hand when you arrive would save alot of stress.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

We're from the Yate area of Bristol (so officially South Glos!)

X-rays, medicals and police certificates have all been completed this week so just waiting on results now.

What would be your advise if we are questioned on arrival as to why we don't have a return ticket? We will have approx £5000 in savings plus 2 credit cards with a limit o £4000 each - surely this would be sufficient evidence that we can purchase and on-ward ticket whilst we are there.

If we do have a job offer come through before we leave (looking good as Andy is expecting a call from an employer this evening) we were going to tell the truth and say that our first port of call will be the immigration department to obtain a work permit.

We figure worst comes to the worst we buy ourselves a ticket to Australia for a week, just to prove we'll be leaving the countr at some point.

Why won't you have a return ticket? The airline should not allow you board and fly to NZ without a return ticket unless your visa clearly states "outward passage waived".

If you do need a return ticket then you may find For those coming in on a tourist visa (http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=15831) thread useful?
