My situation is that i'll be graduating this summer with a degree in politics and economics with 4 years experience working in an office of a solicitors. The idea of struggling to start a career in London/England at the moment doesn't seem like its the path i want to take. Currently i have 95 points (50 for degree, 30 for age, 15 for 4 years work experience) and am planning to come to NZ next Jan/Feb on a 12/23 month working holiday visa. Any help with any of the following questions will be HUGELY appreciated.

1. Can i submit an EOI whilst I am in NZ on a Working Holiday Visa??
2. Can i claim points on ANY work experience I gain in NZ regardless of whether it's on the skilled shortage list
3. Is it likely that an employer will employee me for a full-time job whilst I am travelling on a Working Holiday Visa??

4. Any sggestions on what sort of jobs i will be able to go for??

AND

5. Has anyine else gone down this route or something similar???

Hello.:) Good luck with all your planning. I don't have any answers to offer, but I'm sure people will be along with some shortly.

Hi,

1) Yes, definitely.
2) Don't know, sorry.
3) You mean full time office work, temping and the like? Yes, it's really common for people on WHV's to do that. The 5 main centres would be your best bet to look.

But I assume you're talking about getting an offer for a job that you will then use to add points to your EOI? This may be more difficult. The job would have to be "skilled" (at the moment I believe that means it must be listed on the ANZSCO list....and various other factors that I don't understand. Also, convincing an employer to take a gamble on you might be quite tough. You'll definitely be at an advantage being in NZ to pick up the job offers, compared to being in the UK. But consider if from the POV of an employer: they will be offering you a job which you are using to claim points on for your EOI, but the entire residency process is extremely slow (it could take months), so they would have to hold the job for that length of time....and then you may get rejected residency at the end (worst case scenario!).
Not all employers would be up for this.

The good thing is you will have plenty of time to look into it and sort it out. There are many other ways to stay in NZ beyond your WHV, not just skilled migrant residency, but work to residence, temporary work permits etc etc.
If I were you, I'd go for the 23 month WHV....yes you need an x-ray, but believe me, the 23month option is worth the extra cost and money. Just come out, see as much of the country as you can, pick up cash along the way however you choose, and don't stress too much about the long term situation. 23 months is a long time to make contacts and learn the system.

You could get a police certificate before you go out. If things work out well for you, and quickly, it will come in very handy for the process. But they are only valid for 6 months.
