Hi there,

I read in the Operations Manual (SM5.5, b. i) that a principal applicant needs to have "at least 6.5 in the IELTS General or Academic Module".

Does anyone know if the Academic Module really is ok for an EOI/ITA for PR or a work visa? And not just for e.g. student visa or working holiday?

I haven't taken an IELTS yet and could of course do the General Module, only here in Austria they offer the Academic one much more frequently, and also in my home town, as opposed to the General one, for which I'd have to go to Vienna.

A second question: my wife would need a score of 5 ("Modest User") - anyone have experience in how good one needs to be for that? She can have normal conversations no problem and understands texts that are not too complex, but the grammar is not always correct, the vocabulary limited, and spelling errors frequent...
The thing is, we don't want to wait with the EOI until the test is taken and graded, and have to decide whether to ckeck "5.0 at IELTS" or "none" (=> purchase tuition). If we choose the first and she doesn't make it, will there be problems with the ITA later on, or can we still switch to the tuition option?

Thanks,
Jan
