Hi everybody,
I am writing out of South Africa, Durbs by the sea, to be precise.
From what I have read so far this seems to be one of the most positive forums I have been on, everybody is very helpful.
I am a policeman in SA and work as a crime scene investigator. I am hoping to find employment in a similar or same field. But I would just as happy, if not more so, feeding a bunch of sheep in a small village somewhere.
My wife and I along with our two kids 12 and 9 are wanting to emigrate to NZ. We are going through agents who are very helpful. We have only just completed the EOI and are ready to submit it together with all the other paraphenalia.
Anybody out there able to tell me what we can expect.
Cheers
ICR

Hi guys and welcome along........
Think you can expect a rollercoaster of a ride with the highs and lows of expectation but it's all worth it in the end :raebanana

Hello :)
I think you're in the minority with using an agent. we're all saving our pennies and asking for help here instead. but hope it's working out for you anyway :)

Hello ICR,
We too are from Durban and also using the services of an agent. My OH flies out to N.Z on 24TH Feb to try and obtain job offer. A very costly process- but one that has do be done. Good luck to you and your family!

Hi ICR
Also originally from Durbs: born and bred, then moved to Cape Town and then on to NZ.
I am sure you guys will sail in with your skills.
About those sheep: we are in a rural area surrounded by sheep, llamas and cows: and can highly recommend it.
We have lights ( Eishkom!!) and no alarms or burglar bars.
Every time you start having second thoughts, open a newspaper, or watch the 7pm news: you will know that you are doing the right thing for your kids.
Shout if you need help

Thanks all for the positive comments.
debsandandy if you don't mind me asking how long have you been there and how long did the process take? I know it varies from person to person
Have just been on DHLs site checking the progress of my EOI, its sitting in Dubai at the moment(I don't know if thats something to be excited but I am going to be anyway!)
Now it feels as if things are really on the go.
Alan+Mignon good luck with the trip and search.

Hi Allan and Mignon
Nice to find more SA folks on the forum.
We are also in the starting blocks with our move towards NZ. I am from Bloem - software development.
I like the sheep feeding idea, something I can also do for a while.
Welcome

Hi ICR
The whole process took around 18 months, but I think it does vary in terms of the types of skills one has.
Be patient, make sure you submit all the right documentation, and you won't regret it

Hi Debs
Thanks for the reply, patience is not one of my strengths but I guess I will have to learn. EOI arrived in NZ yesterday, waiting to see what happens next.
