I will be coming to Wellington soon and will be working in Lower Hutt. However, I would prefer to live in Wellington (money permitting). I would like to know how easy it is to commute beween Wellington and Lower Hutt. How much time it takes, and which mode of transport is best (train/bus). I can not drive because of my short sight. I may choose to stay in Lower Hutt if it is an interesting place.
Yor help will be appreciated.

Thats pretty unusual, everyone does it the other way around! Lives in Lower Hutt and commutes to Wellington..
The train is what most people seem to use, and i believe it takes about 20mins although never done it myself.
Dare i ask why ever live in Wellington to work in Lower Hutt, when that would cost you twice as much to live in the city and then the added costs of commuting?

I live in the city and work in Newlands, which is somewhat similar. Public transport is never crowded going in that direction.
Travel times and fares you can get from the Metlink web site

Depending on where you work, you'll probably take the train, the 81, 83 or 91 bus.
If you don't have a car, living in the City does make a lot of sense.

Thanks guys. I guess I will have to live in Lower Hutt since that would be cheaper. And if the transport service is that good, then I can easily go to Wellington for shopping and other things.

Yup 20 mins on the train, bit longer on the bus - plenty of nicer LH suburbs towards Welly though like Korokoro/Horokiwi etc or just out of town in places like Ngaio/Wadestown etc...
