hi, everyone.
been browsing the forum for a few weeks now and thought it was about time we introduced ourselves.
we're from lancashire and are in the early stages of planning our new life in nz. only just told our 3 children our plans and to our surprise are really up for it! which came as a bit of a shock, thought we might have to give it the hard sell..
i'm a cabinet maker/joiner and my wife is a family liason officer at a junior school.
we havnt give much thought on location, i guess where my trade is wanted, so any suggestions on that would be appreciated.
im sure ill be on here asking loads of questions in the coming months.

What is a Family Liason Officer? At my daughter's primary school here in rural NZ we are on first name terms with all of the teachers, many of them live locally.

Hi Chris and Vickym,
my husband is a carpenter/joiner. Jobs for joiners are not quite as easy to find as for carpenters, but when we lived in Northland (Bay of Islands) there were quite a few joiners' jobs going. The NZ Herald had adverts for joiners in Auckland every week. We're now in Dunedin, and there's the odd vacancy for joiners coming up, too, and Queenstown and Wanaka seem to be very keen on them at the moment with all the building going on there. Christchurch has adverts for vacancies in the paper regularly, too.
The wages seem to vary a lot depending on location; the big cities pay quite a bit more.
Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Hi Chris
OH is a joiner and they are very hard to come by over here!
I found a website purely by accident and popped his Cv on it, which we had a few emails about. This then resulted in getting an email from a Master Joiners website asking if we would authorise them to put his Cv on that.
We were then inundated in emails, which resulted in 3 job offers - Auckland, Wellington and Hawkes Bay. He had a few telephone interviews, the one that he is in now rang us 6am one Wednesday morning, i remember answering the phone zombie fied - but he must have made an impression - as we have been out here now 10mths and loving it!
We chose Hawkes Bay as it has the lovely climate and also because we couldnt see oursleves living in a big city, although i am sure the money in better.
I will try and jog my memory and PM you the website.............
