my partner and i are wanting to emigrate to nz, unfortunately i have suffered from epilepsy for the past 20 years, not badly and haven't had one for four years, but i still have to keep on taking the medication. Can anyone tell me if this will affect my medical application and how does the system work i.e paying for it etc.

thanks

Well, Trisha, on the EOI application there's a question that asks:
"Do you have any condition that is likely to require ongoing treatment or medication?". I put "yes" as I am a diabetic - and gave details on my condition.

If the answer to that question is "yes", it says on the application that a "health waiver" is required. I have yet to find out what that is.

Having said that, however, I believe that you would only have problems for conditions that heavily burden the health system - e.g. Kidney failure - or certain contagious diseases they want to keep out of NZ - e.g. tuberculosis. On another thread on this forum, "blik" mentioned having no problems as a main applicant with diabetes.

All the best on your application and keep us posted!
