hi everyone,

we are in the early stages of planning our new life in nz.
i have my own business in lancashire at the mo manufacturing bespoke furniture, i know ill have to go back to working for someone once in nz, which is no problem, but i would like a firm job offer before we all set of on our great adventure.
i have checked out some companys that do the same sort of work as myself, and was thinking of sending emails re. job vacancies including a potfolio of work, iv,e done some quite prestigious jobs V&A museum London being one of them. or is this the totally wrong approach.

any help or advise would be most welcome.

Why go back to working for someone? There are a few different options for you to get over here:

Good luck from a Lancastrian amateur furniture maker. :)

hi, thanks for the response
i checked out the link, some good info on there.
my idea is to find my feet first, i'm not even sure there would be a market for the sort of thing i do over here, planning a visit later this year without the family first. i noticed you are an amature furniture maker! this may seem a daft question but are all the same species of hardwoods avalable in nz as are in the uk?

from what I've seen from types of flooring and panelling in houses in NZ there seems to be a fair few native hardwoods that get used - not that I know much more than that - but I'm sure the mighty internt will tell you ;)

Sorry Chris, I can't really help you yet. Making stuff's a winter hobby for me, and we've only been here for a few months anyway. You've reminded me that I need to find a timber yard.
