Wasn't sure how to do this so thought I'd do two polls for each leg of the move.
This poll is for your to big-up those moving companies you have used and you were happy with their services.
I can only use 10 poll entries so I've limited them to the most used on the forum.

Altho we used John Masons in the UK it was a firm from Shrewsbury who did the actual packing and those 3 guys worked like demons for the day and half it took to pack up our 20 footer , cant remember their name but will ask Clare when she gets home. They get a BIG :nice1

Used John Mason's, and from the quote to the packing they were very efficient and professional, however the company they use in NZ is The Moving Company - which seriously sullies their good name and reputation.
Surely by now they would have grasped the idea that their customers were not entirely satisfied with the 'overall service'.
Nb: I would never recommend John Mason's because of this flaw, and that's a shame for the guys doing their bit in the UK!

I'm with Lesley, we were really happy with the UK John Mason operation in terms of quotes, packing etc (our packers were absolute stars and we only lost one wine glass out of everything) - unfortunately you get saddled with moving co at this end - but ultimately, John Mason are responsible - they are who you pay your money to, so on the basis of who they contract with in NZ - I don't feel I can recommend them. unless people are ready to deal with MF and moving co and stand their ground. for us dealing with moving co was the most stressful thing of our entire move.

We used Allied Pickfords simply because they were one of the few companies who are based in both the UK and NZ. The 3 guys who packed in the UK worked very efficiently practically non-stop for 2 days. We had been told the container would take about 6 weeks to arrive in NZ and that's just what it took. AP in NZ were very helpful and helped us to rush the paperwork through so we could have delivery the day after moving into our new house. 3 or 4 guys arrived with the container and unpacked, asking us which rooms to put all the boxes etc and stayed until we were happy for them to leave, saying they would come back to collect any empty boxes when we were ready. No breakages, damage or problems - how lucky were we??!!!
Unfortunately, I recommended them to my parents when they moved as we'd had such a good experience.....needless to say theirs was nothing like ours! They had missing items, damaged and broken things and a drawn out compensation claim.
I think a lot depends on the packers/unpackers you get on the day, and whether you have sole use of a container or share one and also whether your stuff is put into storage.

We used White & Co in the UK - Shrewsbury branch were the closest to us but they didn't hesitate to venture into Gloucestershire. They seemed the most efficient and professional from the quotes we received (JM, Crown) and we had no hard sell, unlike Crown who were on the phone all the time with the smarmiest sales guy imaginable. The packing went brilliantly, courteous packers who were polite, efficient and brilliant with our little girl - even giving her a ride in the sleeping compartment of their truck. Highly reccommended.

We just had John Mason pack our house up and they were brilliant. Lots of banter between the lads, you could tell they enjoy their jobs and took pride in doing it well. They were polite, professional, and very, very hard-working.
Now just the small matter of dealing with TMC at the other end!!!

we're using john mason. will let everyone know how it all went at the conclusion. all pretty friendly and easy thus far (pick-up occurred at end of jan 08)
might be good to have a poll for each (major) shipper? that way people could research each shipper in its own thread, with a poll for people who used them detailing their experiences and shipper quality levels

Our move was organised by Crown (from NZ, as part of my work package), but they sub-contracted the UK packing to John Masons. JM were very good and professional, but perhaps because we had so much stuff, they did a but of a rush job on some items. They packed up a small set of drawers that contained cables and electrical components, and wrapped / packed it without emptying the drawers. As a result, one of the legs was broken when it arrived. Their labelling of the boxes was a little haphazard too...
Crown did the unloading at this end and did a fantastic job, I can't recommend them high enough! One of the guys was so strong, I saw him carrying our washing machine (front-loader - v. heavy!!) - all by himself!!!
Very polite and helpful, took a great deal of care in their work. Great stuff!
