When we make the move next month we are flying Air NZ via LAX in order to make full use of the extra baggage allowance allowed when flying via the USA.
However seeing that we are going to be packing everything that we need for 8 weeks in our suitcases there is the question of what happens if a bag gets sent over to Timbuktu (and I'm not the luckiest of people in this respect as one of my suitcases has been to both Africa and South America when, alas, I have not! :) )!
Does normal travel insurance cover you if you are flying out on a single and, if not, is there anything that anyone can recommend?
Thanks for your help.

Hi James,
Took me a while to find this again but I guess I'll need it soon too. It was posted in this forum some time ago, like 2 yrs ago so I don't know if anyone has used them or got better options. Or maybe others don't bother with insurance. I thought that if you have a one way ticket you needed special insurance?
help please

Hi James, I have just sorted travel insurance for me and the OH on a one way ticket, with the "Post Office" which covers immigration. It was quite reasonable too. You can choose how many days cover you require. We opted for 9 days as we are having a stop over in Hong Kong. The more days the more you pay. You are covered from when you take out the insurance and the days start ticking from the departure date.
Hope this helps

I used CIS (co-op insurance). I have got annual cover to NZ (42 days max at a time)....and they even insured my mother! (who is 81) for annual cover. They are amazing and the prices were absolutely brilliant. Try them - cis.co.uk.
You pick the Home Insurance quote form and tick "travel insurance". I tried it and it was £89 GBP (40 yr old married woman) for an annual policy to NZ. The personal baggage limit is £1500, and also covers missed or delayed departure. I think it is brilliant although I have never needed to use it thus far!
Sorry if this isn't what you're looking for but I just had to spread the word!

Hi
We have used go- walk about good value. Please note that for regular travel insurance you are required to return to the U.K unless speciefied. STA can arrange just that this mean flight cover only 2 days if you want to safe money.

Hi again, I tried to use the CIS (Co-op) for our travel insurance but they do not cover for emmigration, or if you are on a one way ticket. They explained that in the event of a claim they would investigate that the journey began and ended in the UK. Just thought I should warn you!
