Hi everyone!

I have a couple of questions... once we make the big move, my family and I wish to settle in Petone, and here are some of my questions:

1. how much do water, electricity, gas and other utilities cost per month?

2. Is it wise to get a car?

3. When it is storm season, does Petone get flooded pretty bad? I know its close to the beach.

4. Do people windsurf all year round :raebanana

1. how much do water, electricity, gas and other utilities cost per month?

Water is 'free', you pay for it in your yearly house rates. Quality of water in Petone is top rate I heard, it comes from the ground. Electricity & Gas may come to $100-300 per month, depending on usage and weather.

2. Is it wise to get a car?

Try to live near shopping centres, ie Pak 'N Save, and the train station. Don't rush to buy a car. You can live without one in Welly.

3. When it is storm season, does Petone get flooded pretty bad? I know its close to the beach.

Avoid houses near the rivers (Hutt and Whaiwhetu river?). Floods are not that common but it does happen. The original Welly CBD was planned to be built in Lower hutt but was moved to current location due to flooding.

4. Do people windsurf all year round :raebanana

Not sure, but I don't see them surfing in Petone beach. Welly is windy, and the sea is rough at times.
