Hi,
We are only in the early stages of moving to NZ and was wondering if any of you had any advice on areas/towns in NZ that are best avoided, especially with young children.
At the end of the day where we locate too will depend on our job situation but it is always useful to know if there are parts that are not as nice as others.
Thanks
Davvie

No idea about any "bad" areas but wanted to say hi, I know you did this on another thread but I'm shockingly bad at keeping up to date:)
We're moving to Manukau which I've heard mixed reports about but it's come down to my job offer and since my choices are limited by my profession being practically unheard of I'm looking at it as a foot in the door and it can't be all that bad right? I've heard good stuff too so I'm generally really looking forward to the whole mad experience:laugh

Hi,
I thought I would post it again as I had put the original question in the wrong topic:roll
That is what I am hoping that there are no bad areas. But with most towns you usually get parts that are nicer then others so I was just wondering what everyones experiences have been, especially as I have never even visited NZ.
Thanks

I'm sure that there are plenty of bad areas just like anywhere else. To be fair though when I say bad, I mean worse than other areas, I haven't seen any really 'bad' areas.
Because the population is so low, you don't tend to get main areas that are bad just a few small pockets so to speak.
Each persons perspective on an area is also different e.g. some areas would be great for students but not so good for families etc.
I don't think you will find an area of NZ that doesn't have a good area near a bad one so I wouldn't worry too much about 'regions'.
Find an area you want to live e.g. for jobs, weather, house prices or whatever is important to you and then ask the question again e.g. what parts of Wellington do you recommend or we should stay away from?
