Hi my name is Nicky,

I live in East Sussex at the moment but I am looking to move to New Zealand with my husband and 3 children. Not sure if we will have enough points though. I am a part qualified ACCA accountant and also have completed AAT accountancy and have a diploma in accountancy but having looked at various sites it would seem that I am not qualified enough:mad: If anyone has any information that would help I would really appreciate it.

Thanks
Nicky

Hi Nicky,

Wow yet another person from Sussex leaving!

Welcome to the forum :)

My OH is ICAS (Scottish CA) qualified and when we were looking to apply, it made more sense for me (Software Developer) to be the main applicant, as there are only certain auditors (members of NZICA) get extra points in the emigration process.

What does your husband do? You might have more points if your husband were the main applicant?

There is also the Work to Residence Visa which might be an option (if you don't have enough points for the Skilled Migrant category) to consider, I don't know much about it, but maybe someone here would be able to fill you in on whether this was a valid option.

Thanks for your quick response. My husband works for immigration so has no formal qualifications. He escorts illegal immigrants and prisoners back to the country where they came from so we don't think he will be able to be the main applicant. It is so frustrating as I have been studying for years and it feels as if it may have been a waste of time now.

I wouldn’t get too disheartened; lots of people get to NZ via other routes the work to residence or general working visa might be a way to get in and then later apply for PR.

I am sure if you ask someone with experience of this route will be able to help, might be worth posting a question in the Working in New Zealand forum to find out peoples experiences of this.

This might not be what you want to hear, but you might be better off finishing your ACCA. You should sail in then.

Niki,

I am qualified via ACCA

After many months of my own investigation regards recognising ACCA in NZ, it would appear that it is not all doom and gloom - if you are an experienced auditor in the UK, and have qualified via ACCA, I understand that you can submit your EOI making reference to the long term skill shortage list (Auditor), and that it is not a mandatory requirement that you are registered with the NZICA!

After many conversations with Imigration NZ, they pointed me in the direction of the ANZSCO list - which is apparently a supplement to the Long Term Skills Shortage List.

Would it be worth looking to NZQA for an assessment of your qual's?

Hi if you need the points then you will probably need to complete the ACCA qualification which I believe will then be assessed at effectively degree level so 50 points or so.(was the case a few years ago when we looked into it)

Part qualified unfortunately means nothing in this context and I doubt if AAT will get you many points either I'm afraid

Your best option (if you class it as an option) may be to arrive and get a job offer which would count for much more

However if I was you I would certainly complete the ACCA qualification as you are already half way through. Despite the ICANZ view the ACCA qualification is still a worthwhile qualification and will stand you well in any future career

I take it neither of you have a degree as this would be the easiest way to more points

Best of luck

Don't despair!
AAT is a level 5 yes you will need NZQA assessment but you can also claim points for work experience if you complete ACCA you might get level 7 (I am CIMA associate Level 7). If you other half has a degree or basic qual he can claim points 2 I have a friend who is AAT qualified, under 30 and OH has degree and managed 120 points no job offer and selected.
I am the wrong side of 30 and OH not so qualified but had 105 before job offer you can do it! get your quals assessed first is my advice set a time frame and then hit the agencies you will not be short of job offers they are screaming out for expereinced accounts staff! PM me if you want any more
regards
Jane
