So as many of you know I've been waiting to hear whether I'm getting direct entry into Massey's Vet program (and therefore our ticket to NZ) for quite awhile now.

Well I'm supposed to find out in 19 days and I'm starting to get really nervous and panicky. I also just got the results of our FBI ID report (which took a little under 2 months for the whole process) and have realized it's all coming up!!!

I'm so so nervous that I'm constantly having to remind myself what I'm supposed to be doing, and I have to work really hard to fall asleep.

I haven't really told anyone at work yet, so I've been biting my lip every time I look at the calendar, and I really needed to tell someone!!!

I really just need to relax, but if I keep drinking so much wine I don't know if I'll be able to afford to go to NZ :laugh .

Panicky? Nervous? Yeah - but worth it!! Of course! Try and remember that! :-)

My preferred anasthetics of choice are:

1) Wine - tonight was a Montana unoaked chardonnay as I get into the swing of the NZ wine scene:-)
2) Hypnosis relaxation CDs on my iPod - I swear I don't ever remember beyond the "breathe deeply and count backwards from 300"...Zzz. And all downloadable from the internet. A very effective mechanism in times of stress. (And calorie free!)

My UK 40 days on the police certificate is up on Friday and not here yet - I do believe these things are to the wire to test us!

Seriously - good luck, there are perfect starngers out here rooting for you cos you're one of us!!

Liz the most important thing to do is to keep breathing! :) Seriously though.. very best of luck.

Kate - our UK police check arrived on our doormat exactly 40 days after the date on the receipt we received from them saying they'd got our forms!

Thanks Kate and Anneliese. Logically I know I should just go about my days as normal right now, but there's something so scary and exciting with waiting to hear how my near future will turn out.

I've been working towards this point for over 3 years now, so I suppose some of the anticipation has built up a little. :)

So the meeting to decide my fate is today and if I don't find out within a week I'm on the waiting list.

I just keep trying to remind myself to breathe.

Good luck - I'm glad I didn't spot this when you first posted it, as it would have been too long to wait to see how you did. So if I'd have found it bad, I can't imagine how you've been feeling!

Time is a strange thing, sometimes it goes so quickly and other times it really drags. Hope it goes quickly for you.

Cheers

Thanks Karen and Tia!

I'm really trying not to obsess, but it's really quite hard. I hope that I can concentrate on something else while I'm at work this week, as if it's slow the week will feel like it takes an eternity.

I'll let everyone know when I find out.

I've heard scrabulous is a good distraction and have been warned to stay away just in case the kids think I'm attached to a computer keyboard! :laugh

Hang in there :)

Good vibes to you, Liz.

Classic displacement activity - go and do something physical, some organized thing with other people, e.g. volunteer to clear a pond, litter-pick a play area, paint a pensioner's hallway. You HAVE to keep doing it, if you drift off, someone will call you back to reality, and at the end you'll be shattered and have a better chance of sleeping. But I agree, the recommended meditation/relaxation things are excellent if you can get into them.

I suppose this is hitting me really hard for a few reasons:
1. I'm a perfectionist (I admit it) so I have a hard time with things I can't control.
2. I've wanted to be a Vet since I can first remember and I didn't get into the other schools I applied to this year (admittedly Massey was my #1 choice).
3. I've been wanted to move to NZ for 4 years now, and have been working hard so I could get into Massey Vet school and NZ (which for me is plan A).

It's just that now that it's so close to finding out that it seems farther away than it was a month ago. :laugh

Ah well, I'll survive, and I'll try to leave all my whining posts about how I haven't heard from Massey yet in my livejournal (even though my date to find out by is March 3, you'd think I could wait).

Thanks for all the support. I owe everyone a big cup of tea once I eventually get over there (and to help you relax when it's your turn to obsess over something).

Good luck again, Liz! Treat yourself nice in the meantime. Go for some ice cream or cheesecake or something! :-)

BTW, I think vets rock! If I don't get all squeamish about surgery and such, I'd love to be one.
