Most of our belongings will be shipped in our container but as my daughter is staying to finish Uni - when she finally leaves UK for good she will have more stuff than can fit in her case. What is the best way to ship this over? Do the main international shippers ship small amounts? Could it be sent air freight & if so who does it? Would the shippers pack it like they do a container or would it be up to the individual to pack it & get it to the airport? My OH is panicking about his 'little' girl and wants to get it all sorted before we leave. :yes

I know that PSS ship boxes, single and in multiples, although I haven't used them so not sure if they have any kind of reputation good or bad..
website here: www.pss.uk.com with a page of prices somewhere on there if memory serves.

Hi
We used Britannia to ship our 12 boxes over, costing us about £500 inc of insurance. The boxes took best part of 8wks to come over by boat. The cost was measured on volume i believe. I packed it myself, buying the special boxes from the company (had about 2 or 3 sizes if i recall) and this special white sealing tape for the boxes to be firmly packed, and bought my own bubble wrap and brown packing tape as theirs was costly. You will then have to provide them with an inventory and complete paperwork for insurance, also they will need copy of your visa.
You can probably aire freight them over but have heard it is costly.
A few people on the forum have used Seven Seas who i understand are reasonable, unsure where they are based, know somewhere in England but thats it.
Perhaps if you do a search it may help you further.

We looked into air freighting some stuff as OH was coming out ahead of myself and our son and needed some basics to set up our rental. Anyway I asked Allied Pickfords who were packing our container and they quoted some ridiculous sum (£500+) for what was quite a small box which was going to take 6-8 wks to arrive!
I then asked our very helpful chaps in the mailroom where I worked about using Fedex and ended up shipping out two huge boxes of stuff for the princely sum of £180. Both of them arrived within a week of shipping, neither were checked by customs, both had 'household goods' in them. Saucepans, cutlery, t-towels, baking trays, utensils, bed linen etc.
I appreciate I was lucky to be able to use the facilities of my employers post room (I did pay the company back!) and we were also lucky not to have any problems getting the stuff into the country but I do think its worth looking into for your daughter.
HTH and good luck with your move

I used Seven Seas to send over my work tools, just two small boxes, they were very good and collected from home and done all as agreed without any fuss.
I recommend them

Hello all.
Is there anybody from South Africa who has shipped their household out.
I am trying to find out the cost, more or less, involved but more importantly how long does it take, most of the posts from the UK mention 6-8 weeks. I imagine that it would be a bit quicker from SA.
Would it be necessary to rent a furnished place until it arrives?
Thanks
Pip

I'll now be shipping my few boxes freight with UPS. I found it was just a little more than what UPakWeShip quoted me and it'll be a heck of a lot faster.

When just shipping boxes do you have to pack yourself and do they collect from your home? As we are looking into this for our daughter she will have no way of getting the boxes to the airport/port.

sevenseas deliver boxes and all packing materials and then uplift it again from your home. I thought they were very good, although we did have a few breakages.......

We will be over in about a week and are using PODS airfreight. They came in much cheaper than most quotes we had - £450.00 for 7 boxes.
Ask me in a week and I will let you know if they were any good !!!

I would like to say that while it let me do UPS freight online (in theory) in practice they won't let you make the reservation.
Must use a moving company.
