Hi everyone, this is my first post and straight away its a question. Hope thats ok.

We are only just thinking about moving to NZ, been doing lots of research on the forum and net etc and was really surprised to see Project Managers on the shortage list. My husband has worked as a PM for the last 10 years in the defence industry. He is qualified but not sure at the moment which qualification and cant speak to him as he is in the US. He also has City and Guilds in Mechanical Engineering which he did for his apprenticeship.

I was wondering how easy it would be to transfer his skills to a PM job in another industry? I've seen lots of PM jobs advertised just not in his field.

Hope someone can help with this, many thanks.

Project management in the defence industry is extremely complicated affair.
Your hubbys skills are defiantly transferable in the engineering industry.

The one down side is if he’s a PM in the US he may be looking at a substantial pay cut almost anywhere else.

No, thankfully he is a PM here in the UK but does travel to the US on business. He earns £37k here. I've had a look on some job sites and it looks like he might get the same or more. Thanks for your help Bob, thats good news.
