Some waffle and then a question everyone:

I may have mentioned that a quick bit of maths -- taken from glancing at the fortnightly NZIS sheet -- suggests that 80%-odd of EOIs get approved and 80% of Residence Apps. get a thumbs-up. So if you start the process you're in with something like a 60% chance of success. Over-simple, probably, but you know what I'm getting at.

That's as maybe.

Anyway, question: does anyone here, after actually chatting with NZIS staff or looking at in-depth figures, have any numbers as to folks who - for example -- simply decide not to return their ITAs?

At most of the nine stages of the PR process NZIS gives little arrows saying "Not everyone who is sent this stuff returns it", or the like. So I'm just wondering.

Cheers,
Matt.

there used to be a time when the fortnightly selection was full of stats, there was a very high percentage of the "sod it" camp as i would call it. this was when selection was 190s feb to may 04.

i would think that people would become dispondant, pay this and that jump through this ring and that ring. I think its a little naughty to lull people into this $100 EOI trap

Onto to thise you've also got to add the number of people who are granted residence, but never actually go. I'm sure there are a large enough number of them

In addition to our new PR visas in the passport, we've had US H1B works visas which have never been used. They weren't cheap to aquire either.

I think all the hoops are to get people to say "sod it" You want to weed out as many of the half-hearted as you can.

The Fees are much less than the cost of coming to NZ and decieding that the whole thing was a mistake.

We are taking it slow because we know full well that with our limited resources, it's a one way trip for us.

Thanks. In a sense NZIS, given they have limited reources, make it as reasonable as possible. They clearly realized that the EOI mechanism saves a lot of time they used to spend on really inappropriate applications, so now they use it to do pre-sorting and then they simply send the ITA so that you can prove what you told 'em. Quite fair and simple.
On the other hand, the sheer effort involved (from completing EOI to gathering fairly obscure documents such as police checks) -- and the not-inconsiderable fees involved -- can be off-putting, I'm sure.

When I look at the NZIS figures each fortnight, I also tend to ruminate about the processing overlap from one July-June finanacial year to the next. E.g., I assume that NZIS will still be processing quite a few of the recent applicants well into late summer. So if they get their 22,000 based on recent low passmark, I assume that doesn't prejudice the chances of anyone who, perhaps through no fault of their own, has to wait until several months from now to submit their ITA. They just get tacked onto next year's figures (right?)

Just as interestingly - and I've raised this before - anyone who gets a 2-yr. SMC-WTR permit will probably not, at least for now, show up in the "Residence Approvals" column. But they sure aren't declines, either. So do they just stay in statistical limbo until they come and do their 3 months' skilled work?

Cheers,
Matt.
