Hi Everyone!
My OH and I have our flights booked and are due to land in NZ in mid April :raebanana
We are coming out on WHV, with the hope of changing them into PR as soon as possible.
Can anyone recommend good (quality and value) travel insurance for 6 months..... must be quite comprehensive to cover us for all the activities we plan to get up to!
Many thanks
Claire

Hi, and welcome to the forum.
You don't say where you are located, but if it's the UK then check out Travel Insurance (http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=16221) thread.

Hi there
Be careful on this one... as posted on other threads. Easy to get travle insurance but look at the wording.
Most policies will basically cover you to get you back to the country of origin. Which may not be ideal on a one way trip!
Also quite often it is the minimum cover to sort you out.
Not wanting to be a downer - just saying check what cover you are paying for
Cheers

Hmmm it looks like we can't get Travel Insurance ... as we only have a 1 way ticket and are not planning to return to the UK... :roll
We really need to have medical cover and contents insurance whilst we are trying for PR. Does anyone have any reccomendations?
Many thanks

I've no idea whether this is possible or not, but it's just a thought that occurs to me. Would a NZ insurance company cover you, as you're going to be in their area of operations? It might be worth asking some. You're not the only people ever to have been in this situation, and it's likely somebody will have seen the business opportunity.

May I suggest you re-read the thread that I posted last time more closely :yes
In particular if you check out this post http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showpost.php?p=182921&postcount=2
They definitely provide insurance for migrants on one way tickets.

Thanks Ian,
Unfortunatly go-walkabout will only cover emmigration for a max of 21 days.... :(
The best deal I have found is with Southern Cross.... their Visiting NZ Insurance covers us for all medical eventualities (inlcuding most extreme sports) and also baggage upto $25,000 - which is miles better than the £1,000 cover most UK policies offer.
Its not the cheapest though at £570 for the year..... but probably worth it.
However, If anyone else has any other suggestions, they would be gratefully recieved.

Sorry, didn't know that they had a limit on how long the cover was for (guess it's obvious when you think about it).
Have you checked with them regarding:-
1. Travel Insurance for Backpackers, Students and Gap-year Travellers
‘Single trip’ travel Insurance cover for periods up to 18 months.
Seems to cover what you want, I would certainly ask them for a quote.
As you are actually thinking of staying in NZ if possible, I would also check out getting insurance directly in NZ once you arrive as they should be able to give you yearly cover which you could just extend as and when needed (guess they wouldn't cover you for being flown home though?).

i think southern cross do a reasonable policy for people who do not have PR eg on a work or WH visa.
They are a NZ company and will insure english people
Worth a call i think

Hi Claire,
It sounds like you guys are in a very similr situation to us - we arrive in NZ at the end of March, I'm on a WHV and the OH is on a tourist visa (already had his WHV), but intend to apply for work permit/PR. We were initially going over on a one-way flight but bottled it and bought a return ticket the other day - not because we don't intend to stay, but because of issues of entering on a on-way with a tourist visa.
I'd be interested in comparing experiences etc - feel free to PM me if interested (I can't seem to PM you for some reason?)
Cheers

Hi sam, I can't PM you either... must be something to do with being a newbie... :)
Have you got all your accomodation / car hire sorted out for your arrival?
If not and you are staying in Auckland I can point you in the right direction.
I have done some pretty extensive research! lol
I'm due to hand my notice in to my employer this week ... am v. nervous about it.... *sigh* I could do with a thread on good resignation letters lol.

I've written a fair few resignation letters and the best advice is to make them short and to the point; wish them well; say that you have enjoyed working for them (no point burning bridges); state your notice period and your intended date for leaving (and mention any holiday that you haven't yet taken / plan to take before you go).
I've attached a copy of my last one (with names etc blanked out).
