Hi just wondering if there are any midwives out there who could give some advice.
I am a nurse but i am currently doing my degree in midwifery, we are hoping to come over to New Zealand as soon as I am qualified. Does anyone know the likelyhood of being offered a job as a newly qualified, and any advice about salary would be good also. infact any information would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Joanne

Try and contact 'andbarrel' on here. She's my daughter and has just qualified back in the UK. She's coming out in April and she's wading through job offer after job offer. They are so short of midwives it's unbelievable. I'll tell her to check out your post next time she rings.
You'll have no problem getting offers - just take your time and check out the areas very carefully. Good luck.

Thanks for that, i will try and pm her. It's good to hear there are plenty jobs on offer unlike the UK. This forum is a God send, everyone is so helpfull.

Forgot to say we were looking at Hawkes Bay / Northland areas, but I suppose it will depend on the job offer at the end of the day

Make sure you bargain to get your courses and annual practice certificates paid for! I didnt, as they are desperate for midwives they should be giving us more help, particularly Christchurch. I am having to fork out 478 dollars for my practicing cert, although apparently they pay you back (at their leisure), they are the only DHB that do not pay it up front for you. Also having to pay for first course for Midwifery Council that is $290, three courses to do to get full reg once you are here! The course I am doing is very dry and stuff I have already done to qualify, so not best pleased at present!!!!
