Yet again, I find myself asking for the knowledgeable advice of this forum...

Filling in:

Plan B - WTR paperwork (I cocked up and need a German police cert for PR) AND
Plan A - PR application response on the grounds of earlier advice to use one medical etc and try for full PR

In the PR application checklist it states:

"It would assist processing if you were able to place photocopies behind the originals. Certified copies and documents provided for the purpose of immigration will not be returned. This includes all medical certificates".

Am I really reading this right - does this mean for example that all my evidence of employment covering original offers of employment, original payslips, etc, not to mention birth certificate, etc need:
a) Originals or certified, AND
b) Copies??
And which set, or both, doesn't get returned??? I mean, I'd quite like all my originals back (apart from medical and police certs which I understand, kind of but potenitally need to use for both WTR and PR...)

I know my photocopier is working flat out anyway, but.. If it's originals AND copies, I'm gonna need a sack to take them all to NZIS!

Confused...

The basic requirement is that you provide either originals, or certified copies. If you provide originals then you must provide a normal photocopy behind it, so that NZIS can confirm it is a true copy and return the original to you. Certified copies are already just that, a true copy of the original, and so by implication NZIS will not return these as you must have the original.
Only the medicals and the application form need to be originals, and for these two you do not need to provide copies. For everything else either you provide the original+copy, or certified copies. NZIS reserve the right to request the original later in all cases.
Good luck.

Basically agree with the above - we sent originals of everything we had with photocopies (except medical forms). We got all the originals back and yep you're right huge sack full of paperwork :) Also NZIS don't like it all in plastic folders/box files etc so avoid them and just send big pile of papers (I found that quite hard :D)
Best of luck

Many thanks - makes perfect sense now, but am so glad I checked just to be sure!

VERY large envelopes to be purchased today - how can they not work with plastic wallets...??:-)

We were lucky in that it was very convenient for me to drop off the whole lot at NZ House rather than having to send it all recorded delivery. They looked at the originals, checked that my photocopies were accurate, then kept both sets - all originals were later returned by recorded delivery. As mentioned above, if you send certified copies you don't need photocopies too, but you won't get them back.

We were the same as Will.
Took our originals plus photocopies (make sure each copy is behind its original and not all together at the back). all to London 2 weeks ago.
Paperwork - oh yes! 2 inches worth and we didn't really have to prove as much as some.
PLastic folders slide and fall off of desks and don't stack well when there are lots of files apparently, they even took out the nice paper dividers we left in.
