I am a lurker turned poster. Please bear with me if I do not follow the forum tradition and let me know. Suggestions are always welcome!

Huby and I are the "lucky" ones who need a police certificate from the FBI. We sent off the request 1 week after we were selected on 17 Jan 08 as the website states processing time is between 16-20 weeks.

We received our ITA on 11 Feb, instead of the normally 3 month+ after selection (for London branch) as discussed in this forum.

Does anyone have experience of requesting for an extension with INZ and how to make such a request (the ITA has not mentioned any case officer's name yet).

Anyone knows the typical turnaround time for the FBI to send their check back to us? FYI - payment was accepted on 4 Feb.

we've had an extension - i emailed NZIS in London to say our medicals were taking ages and they gave us an extra month

Same here, I emailed them to ask for an extension (my NZQA assessment wasn't high enough, and I needed to get a job offer to stay in the game...), and they gave me 2 months.

Another angle I suppose but we submitted our ITA minus a police check from some time we spent in Africa and the evidence supporting our request to the relevant embassey etc. NZIS followed up with on it but it was eventually approved 2 weeks before we received police check back :)

A couple of you mentioned you emailed - am i being really stupid but where is the email address? I looked through the ITA letter and on the website and could only find the phone number taht charges £1 p minute.

Hi I also got a 3 months extention due to delay in getting quals back from NZQA.

Thanks to all who responded.

I have emailed to clarify if an extension was possible. The reponse was prompt. They will allow for an extension request as long as there is proof of extenuating circumstances.
