... or something called something like it.

I talked to someone at the Inland Revenue helpline the other day, and she said that you can only apply for this once you've been a resident in NZ for the previous 12 months. You would then get it retrospectively, but not before the 12 months are up.

Do others have experience with this? Does it sound right? I probably won't apply until the new tax year now anyway, too complicated with the UK wages and all, and after that have my partner apply as the main applicant (who is a New Zealander, apparently that makes all the difference). But I hadn't heard of the 12 months requirement for non New Zealand citizens.

Anyone dealt with this?

Hi Daniela

We got tax credits as soon as hubby started work. Only 4 weeks after arriving. So would try speaking to someone else.

Another jobsworth spouting rubbish!!!!

Claim as soon as you start working, if you have a local WINZ office they will also photocopy all the documents you have to produce free of charge!

Marcia's right- you've spoken to a jobsworth (like the policeman who informed me I needed a Kiwi driving license from day 1 as I intended to stay here). We made our claim from our motel room because we came out here with a $40K salary and we budgeted for it and needed it. With PR you are entitled from day 1.

Not particularly enlightening, but yes, with a blue-stickered child in tow you can claim from day 1.
