Hi any one else living out of suitcases? I might feel better if I'm not alone. It has only been 11 days since our belongings and furniture left but boy do I miss things already. All we have now is what will fit into our luggage for the flights.
I AM trying to think of it as one long holiday.
It will be 4 weeks Sunday till we go and about another 6 weeks till our container arrives. Or longer having read some of the nightmare stories on this forum about “The Moving Company”
I guess I am also feeling that I am at the point of no return too!
Please tell me it can only get better!:(

It'll get loads better! There should still be some sun left in Auckland in 4 weeks time and you can beg borrow steal from all your forum friends any of the little essentials you need til your stuff arrives.
Just treat it as a big adventure!

Hello Den,
You are not alone at all. I lived out of a suitcase about 2.5 months. 1 month in Turkey and then 6 weeks here. When I left, Mark was still packing our belongings and when we met in Singapore airport he confessed that he could not pack everything on time so there is one more lot to come. So when the first lot arrived many things were not complete like computers without monitors or picture frames but no picture (the funniest one was a land rover but no dashboard). 10 months after being here we have the second lot :)
Always think things can be worse so be positive, also you get to appriciate simple times or when your belongings turn up you get so so happy that it is like another Xmas or a B'day.
Don't worry when you arrive here time goes so quickly that you don't even realise it. :)

We'll be doing that from next Thursday, luckily we're able to borrow pots, pans, cutlery & bedding up until we leave. All white goods are staying with the house so we'll still be able to feed ourselves until we sell the house (should complete four days befor we fly)... just getting stressed now as we're not ready for the movers, not sure if we'll have everything cleaned and sorted in time!

We will be in that situ soon enough. We will have 4 weeks in UK and approx 4-5 wks in NZ? Luckily for us we have a very kind friend who has a house with an annexe which we can use. We will beg/borrow pots, plates etc and my Mum has a fantastic laundrette service :D

Been living out of suitcases for months while trying to sell the house. It drives me a little crazy, but mostly I think I'm used to it now.

Yep for over a month now in NZ and you do get used to it although I cannot wait till my container arrives :D Also just to note we brought a lot of household things in our luggage - bedding, towels etc but it's amazing how much stuff we've had to buy or borrow just to get through day to day stuff and we didn't really factor that it to our budget!
All the best

It gets easier, because you just get used to what you have in your suitcase. My husband and I found the four months of suitcase-living easy as we'd been traveling for four years with not much stuff and no address. However, we were surprised that the kids (4 and 7) adjusted so easily to just having a box of Lego and a few matchbox cars to play with for months.
We reached a point where we said that we don't want our container and can't we just get rid of the stuff in it. But once it arrived we realized it's quite nice having a few more items around the house than just sleeping bags, a set of clothes, 2 saucepans and 4 books. And now, a months later, we're well back to enjoying a house full of unnecessary stuff.
It really is just a question of getting used to whatever is there.

I may be just a bit weird, but I was kind of liking the idea of not having any stuff, having got used to it for the first 2 months of life in NZ - everything was so TIDY!! I was actually half dreading the arrival of the container because we'd have to find room for everything, and the kids would go wild and spread their toys everywhere! As it turned out, kiwi houses are way bigger than any house we've ever lived in in the UK, so there is plenty of room, and although the kids do make a mess, there is still room to walk round it while looking the other way and pretending it's not there! :yes

Hi Bartons by the way - just realised you're in Dunedin, too - I'm out at Mosgiel - hello neighbour! :cheers There don't appear to be that many Dunedinites on the forum these days?

Ditto..
its amazing how little stuff that you actually need to survive - but equally, its fantastic when the container arrives - like Christmas on a bigger scale!

Glad to hear you're feeling better about it Den, you'll be here before you know it. And BTW, we had a very good experience with The Moving Company here, so good that we used them to move all our stuff from the rental to our house when we bought.
Cheers,

Hi
We did it for nearly a month when we first moved over here and lived in a Motel for 3 of those weeks.
It was hard going especially with a 4.5yr old running around..........
We were lucky in the UK as moved out of our house day before we were due to fly.
Took a while to get sorted, all that ironing!!!!! Then the wait till our boxes came was a further 2 mths or so, which felt like Christmas when we opened them, it was fab!!!

That'll be us in 4 weeks! Shippers don't come until early April, then it'll be suitcases and a couple of boxes of airfreight for 10-12 weeks....... Kind of like camping, but in a house :)

I lived out of a backpack here last year so a suitcase sounds like luxury ;)
The only furniture I own is a desk and a bed. I am basically living out of bags on the floor.
So you're not alone :)

We've been living out of a suitcase for 8 months, since Oz and NZ only have domestic weight restrictions between them. Getting back to Oz with all that I have purchased while here should be oh so much fun.
