Hi All,

I was just wondering whether anyone would know about 'refund' of the money paid to INZ (around 1800 NZ $) while submitting the ITA, in the following 2 scenarios :

1. Application declined/ rejected by INZ
2. WTR approved by INZ, but applicant decides not to go

Any feedback would be helpful.

Thanks,
Sudo

If you apply for PR and instead they offer WTR visa, and you refuse to accept this, in principle NZIS should refund money but if they don't, there is nothing much you can do.

One possibility is charge back if you paid by your credit card. Visa and Master Card rules allow card holders to dispute a transaction withing 6 months of charge. I am of the opinion that in such cases you can ask for a charge back as you are not getting the product you paid for. These are my thoughts but credit card rules are what I said.

If you are declined then I doubt you will receive a refund as you are paying them to assess your application - not their fault if you get points wrong.
On WTR - sorry no idea, although I expect it is no because the ITA procedures say you may be offered WTR instead if they think you may not settle. You sign this form and accept the conditions when applying.
I am sure there is more info on the NZIS site somewhere.
PS - have you changed your mind about going?

Yes if application is declined, there is no quastion of asking for refund but if you have points over their required threshold and you have applied for PR (application also states a PR application) and they offered WTR, you might not agree with their decision. There I think you have a moral right to ask for refund.

Thanks for your reply Rusty.

No I have not changed my mind, but want to be sure of the monetory commitment before I get into it, and also an assessment of where I might stand should the unfortunate decision be thrust on me !

NZIS refunds the money in case if your application is sent back due to lack of documentation. OH had applied for PR under Family Reunion Category - Adult Child. However, they accepted the application and then sent it back as she didn't have a job offer (which is required). They also refunded the money (~ NZD 1200)

Everyone is wary of the money part, so don't worry there, you are not alone. We have spent over £1500 in the last 3 months alone! :wah
I saw one of your other posts and it answered my own question about the reasons you ask.
Good luck whichever way you choose, but if your calculations of 140 points are correct then you should be selected from the pool straight away - EOI costs about £150 I think. You can turn down the ITA when it is sent to you without paying anything more - as long as you don't send it in.

I doubt you can claim a refund as the fee is to lodge the ITA.
There will be info on the NZIS site or with the information pack you received with the ITA I'm sure.

Seems to me that if an applicant changes their minds midstream (WTR offered but applicant declines after all is said and done OR if ITA submitted with fees paid but applicant decides not to procede) that NZIS is in no way responsible for an applicants change of heart because on their end they have commited staff to begin or have completed the review.

I'd say the applicants who want their money back because they've changed their minds are SOL...you've got to be commited when you click "Send" for the EOI or when you submit materials/fees for an ITA.

We've completed all the hoop jumping and submitted all required materials, worked with a wonderful case worker who committed her time to reviewing it all and have gotten our visas...there is absolutely no way that I would request a refund if we decided not to move at this point...

There is a similar post that someone else has posted, asking virtually same question.

We have all agreed the same, if it is your decision to withdraw, then no refund will be issued as far as we can see.
