Got our first removal quote roughly 3/4 of a container door to door.
£3300 if they pack
£3100 if we pack. Thinking i will let them pack. This is less than i was expecting.

Who else should we get to quote...?

cheers

Ian

Who've you had so far?
We had Crown £3800, Whites £3300 John Mason £3200. Allied Removals (NZ based) £3450. We have chosen JM for now but are toying with Allied removals. These quotes are for a single sole use container. Crown look to be good as they handle it all the way and don't pass to another company in NZ which appears to sometimes be where the problems start. Good luck

Hi,
I don't wish too worry you but feel I should point this out. Sirva, who own all the allied removal groups have filed for bankruptcy on the 15th Feb 08
See here

http://topstories.troubledcompanyreporter.com/stories/200802157.html

Further down this story it lists the companys effected.
If you decide to go with them It may be an idea to mention this and see what they have to say about it as you don't want your goods stuck somewhere. As they are such a large group they may have contingency plans in store.

Not 100% sure re allied movers but they own most of them see here

SIRVA's
brands include Allied, Allied International, Allied Pickfords,
Allied Special Products, DJK Residential, Global, northAmerican,
northAmerican International, Pickfords, SIRVA Mortgage, SIRVA
Relocation and SIRVA Settlement.

Anyway they must have some sort of contingency plan.I am sure things will be ok but anyone who has not picked them yet should check. No doubt one of the big firms will buy them out.

Goes to Crown . A massive £4652. Anyone would think they did not want the job....

Also had Atlantis at ~£3600 if we packed most of the boxes ourselves... hmm think would prefer to get Britannia for less and they pack everything.

We tried John Mason £3200, PSS £3500, Allied, £3300 and Britannia at £3100 and then tried to put it up. All for company packed 20ft container.
Argue on price as once the schools go back there is very little work.

We're just about to sign up with Excess Baggage International as they seem really professional and brought their price down to match our lowest quote (£2500) for 18cbm. As they're moving two-thirds of this from Barcelona to London prior to shipping the quote might be hard to compare, so I'd suggest giving them a try yourself. Not sure about others but they seem to calculate on the basis of multiple 20cu ft crates which might suit you, having less than a full container's worth.
