Hello everybody,

As I write this post, I am in the 'draft' stage of preparing my online EOI. Myself as the principal applicant with work experience and recognized qualification in an absolute skills shortage (or long term skills shortage) area and 20 points gathered against my wife's recognized qualification, we have hit the magic figure of 140 ... but all this without a job offer.

I/ we have not seriously started looking for jobs yet, but the picture looks encouraging, given the number of requirements I see in the Auckland and Wellington labour market for IT professionals with respect to my profile and skillsets.

At this point, we are still contemplating on whether to grab a job offer and then submit the EOI or 'just do it' now and if (and when) the EOI gets selected and ITA is received, we will start a more serious job hunt.

Has anyone been in such a 'decision dilema' before ? What did you do about it ?

Also, do you think that when INZ will assess an ITA application with 140 points but without a job offer, they will be more inclined to give a WTR rather than a PR ?

I understand that each individual case is different, but from your response(s) I hope to get a direction in my thought process.

Looking forward to your comments/ feedback.

Thanks in advance,
Sudo

Hi Sudo

I can't offer any advice I'm afraid as I'm kind of in the same boat as you so would be equally as interested in the responses. I was advised to wait until I got my nurse registration through before submitting EOI, tho I think I have 135 points, no job offer.

Thought I had it all worked out, get reg, apply for practising cert and submit EOI, but now I don't know whether to hang on in there in the hope of a job offer, giving me extra points!?

I have read on several threads that people have been selected and successful with less points. I think maybe I'm just putting unnecessary obstacles in my way, guess it's just a coping mechanism, a way to ensure I keep my feet on the ground!

Anyway, good luck and fingers crossed that whatever you do will be right!

You can always submit your EOI (without job offer) and when you get a job you can inform INZ and they will adjust your application.

We put in our EOI with no job offer
Moved to Wellington
Found jobs
Got Work permits (if one of you get a job your OH automatically gets one)
Informed Immigrations processing our EOI
Got PR 5 months later as it was still being processed in the UK

If I was doing it all over again.

I would put in EOI when I got the job here in NZ and it would have been processed quicker and less stressful.

Some have got jobs over the Internet but its hard.

I don't know if it is any help. We submitted with 140 and no job offer. We had signed up to go out to NZ for a trip (thought it was wise having not been there) and we worked really hard with me cold calling companies to visit while out there to assess my prospects. I found quite a few were willing to meet with me informally (I am in media and communications). My husband is a police officer and arranged to take the police recruitment test out there but there was no guarantee of a job. Our ITA arrived before we went on the trip so we got everything prepared and ready, did the trip, decided it was for us and our prospects were good and submitted it all on our return. OH passed the test and is awaiting a formal letter, house is sold (assuming she doesn't pull out) and I am shortly going to his the job market. We are going in September (as long as the house sale has gone through). Any more questions just shout. Kim
