Hi, section 18A is as far as i know , is included on residency slip nz put on your passport when you start work and supposed to return to migration to have it removed after 3 months if still employed in same job. :( but i am wondering if their is a problem now in removeing ??????????Cobra.

Oh I see - I don't think my son had that, but I would think a call to NZIS might clear it up. I found that if my son phones them locally in NZ they have been really helpful, whereas here it is hard to get anyone to talk to.

We had a section 18a condition on our visa, but got it removed no problems once my OH had taken up his job offer and worked for them for the required 3 months. All you need to do is prove to immigration by supplying a letter from the employer, and copies of the bank statements proving the wages into the bank account, send these off with passports and new stickers without the 18a conditions are put in!
I would imagine (but only guessing don't know for sure!) that your son wouldn't be able to sponser you until that condition has been met!
Good luck

The 18A condition has to come off his passport for him to sponser his parents from what i read on the info. I must get in touch with him about it just in case there is a problem after leaving it for so long. It looks like you could be right on your info above, but you never know with them migration people

Have the rules changed recently.....we had to have satisfied the conditions of section 18A (i.e. same job for over 3 months) within 7 months of arrival in NZ.

It appears he has satisified the conditions---- same job for nearly 3 years, but never had section 18A removed for some reason. Anyway we are going to NZ in afew weeks time to have another look around, and hopefully we will get this sorted out , maybe its just a matter of visiting immigration and problem solved?
