We just arrived in Auckland. Asked our new bank ASB bank for a car insurance quote (at their suggestion). Their 'fully comp' insurance will only pay me out $3000 max if someone uninsured drives into my car - but will pay someone else out in full if I drive into theirs (!). When I queried this the guy said well - if the other party is not insured then we (the bank) don't have anyone to claim from hence the limit. He reckoned not many insurers here offer a policy that will pay ME out in full if someone uninsured drives into me.
This seems pretty daft. What is the point of insurance? I tried to get through to State tonight to get another quote but no luck. Can anyone confirm if this is the norm, and if I can get proper fully comp? Otherwise there seems no point in buying insurance and anything other than a old car. And surely all these shiny new cars on the road are not riding around uninsured???
