Hello!
My husband and I are moving back to NZ in August after almost 9 years living in the USA. Over that time we've accumulated a lot of stuff, along with two dogs that we want to take back home. We've started the MAF process for importing the dogs, but need to get some information regarding shipping a container of household goods back home.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a company on the East Coast we can use? We live in Rhode Island, which is fairly close to Boston and about 2 and half hours from New York.
Any help appreciated!

Hi!
I'm also moving from the US to NZ, though we live on the other side of the country. As we haven't shipped our stuff yet, I can't give you practical feedback on how it went, but we have gotten about 6 or 7 quotes and I can recommend a couple companies that have given me good customer service and low quotes and are fairly well respected (from what I understand).

Sterling International - Phil Aeschleman
Meyers Van Lines - Joy Yoffey

I recommend you check out www.movingscam.com. Good advice there on how to avoid a fiasco. Ask which companies will be handling the packing in the US, and the unpacking in NZ (if you will not be doing self-pack). There are some that should be avoided. There is good info on EmigrateNZ on which NZ based companies are better or worse. Look at the recent survey threads.

Best wishes on your move!

Regards,
David

I can't say enough about Ranier Overseas so far. They are a bit more, but they take care of EVERYTHING. http://www.rainieros.com/

We used UPakWeShip and are very pleased with their service.
The teams on each end were excellent.

Nathan, this is a great site! I love the online volume calculator. Thanks for the referral.

Hi Lucy,

We moved from just north of Boston a little over three years ago. We used Gentle Giant Movers. They were on the pricey end but they were really helpful and everything arrived in great shape. They had been voted Best of Boston under "Movers" for a few years. We ended up having a 20 foot container.

Also, at that time we couldn't pack our own stuff for the move because of "security risks" so we had to go with an all inclusive mover. Not sure if things have changed since then.

FYI - we were told that it would take 8-10 weeks for our stuff to get here and it took 4 months - so plan accordingly if this happens to you. I think not many people move to NZ from the East Coast so it took a round about route to get here.

Good luck!
-Jen
