Hey folks,

I'm a big lover of live music, especially pub and club gigs. Im mainly into rock, prog, blues, soul and jazz stuff and some traditional Irish, just wondering what the live music scene is like in Auckland? I'm a keyboard player too so i'd love to get a few gigs while i'm there for the next 6 months, does anyone know where people in the music scene hang out or do have forums online?

:cheers

Loads of stuff in Auckland--especially free and cheap things in the summer. Check out the Claire Inn on Dominion Rd when you get to Auckland (we may be leaving right around the time you get here, otherwise we'd take you for a pint). There is some really good live music there Friday & Sat nights, although really they're only a wannabe Irish pub;) Variety of music played there.

The Dogs Bollix on Newton Road is an authentic Irish pub that has loads of live music. They have jam sessions on Tuesday nights.

You'd really want to be near suburbs close to the CBD - Ponsonby, Mt Eden, Kingland for the most of the music scene. Plenty of bars have live music both during the week and at weekends.

There are websites that advertise bands and gigs:
www.viewauckland.co.nz
www.eventfinder.co.nz
