When the immigration "expert" spoke to me yesterday he said that as soon as we put in our application to go to NZ we should have our house on the market.

Is this true? My concern is that if the application is turned down at the final stage we could be in a position with a house which is either sold or nearing completion.

I'm sorry if this has already been covered before but I trust the opinion of others on this site more than his and when we get to the stage of putting in an EOI will probably do it outselves anyway.

P.S. Good news Sandra

Probably depends on your market but that sounds very aggressive. I am guessing it will take us 2 months to sell ours so we will not put it up on the market until we have approval in principal or something close to that. At that stage we need to start working out all of the logisitcs and big among those for us is selling our house.

Hi

I have no intention of putting my house up for sale until I am confident that they at least will give me a looking for work visa. What if we have assigned ourselves points that they dispute? I cannot believe your immigration expert, other than doing this shows commitment.

just my $0.02 as they say

cheers

The other point of view is that it can take a blooming long time to sell a house in the UK and what with chains breaking down etc. I would say to put it on the market for a good price but in a low key way perhaps with just one agent. you can always set a long completion on it and if the worst comes to the worst terminate the sale. 'sides that you will get here I'm sure.

Hi

We put our house up in April, had lots of interest initially but nobody had sold so didn't get an offer until July (from people who saw it the first week it went up) caught in a chain but finally completed today. I suppose it all depnds on the market in your area but do consider just how long the whole process can take even if you sell immediately. My feeling is put it up sooner rather than later.

Good luck

We're looking at it from the opposite side of the coin to you, having had a job offer back in February they wanted us out there asap in 8-12 weeks. We knew we could not possibly prepare and sell house etc within that timeframe so turned down the job. We now have the house up for sale (under offer) and are not actively looking for jobs until the contracts are exchanged. Due to some folks around other forums etc being in severe financial difficulties having made the move before house was exchanged / completed, only to have it fail or falter at the last knockings, we are taking absolutely no risks. We will rent here in UK so that we are free to go when another opportunity arises.

Good point Lil, we were in a position where my employer was prepared to wait for us to sort something everything out at home before we left for NZ. I would not have wanted to leave a house unsold in the UK.

Dilemma`s, dilemma`s, but life is full of them :no . We have one, job offer is sitting on the desk as i write this thread :nice1 . House has been on the market for 6 weeks, job offer here for 3 weeks ;) . Now what do i do :? Actually been quite fortunate. Employer has said go with the flow, thats what i wanted to hear. :clap
My situation is different to most, my employ is driving artics so employer is prepared to wait as agency can fill my boots till i get there. :nice1
Viewing should start to move over the next few weeks :hopeso estate agent says July, August is quiet (holidays) it should improve mid sept, oct.
If it don`t we will have to make serious decision on dropping price. Can`t afford to drop price at mo. I hate dilemma`s

I put my house on the market first week in may and last week changed agents not had one offer also have got a job to go to in NZ they are expecting me in dec so am also in a dilemma. It is an utter nightmare regarding the property market. I think because of interest rates have gone up and may go up again it might be wise to put it on the market and see what happens?

Blue..I dont know if its a solution you have considered or even if its viable for you but our daughter and son in law have come out on a work visa and rented their house out. The rent is more than paying the mortgage until they decide whether to sell it or return to the UK. In the mean time they are renting here. Very easy to bring UK pounds here and buy a house but really difficult to do it the other way.
