Hi Everyone,

Here is another one of those many dilemmas that I am facing ... but this time, I am sure that I am not alone :D

So, here I am with 5 years of experience in an "occupation" classified by ANZSCO as "Systems Analyst" (code 261112). I read the "tasks" and skill levels for this unit group and tell myself, "yes, this is it !"

And this is where the problem begins :uhoh

In these last 5 years, I have served my employers by performing tasks and assignments that match beautifully with the ANZSCO description of the above occupation/ skill unit group ... but my employers have bestowed upon me multiple designations or job-titles across my employment tenures. And none of them are called "Systems Analyst".

For example, with one of my previous employers, my job-title was "Senior Member of Technical Staff" but the job profile and responsibilities were matching with those of a Systems Analyst's ... that is to say, dotted every i and crossed every t for ANZSCO Occupation Code 261112. So on and so forth with other job titles like "Business Analyst", "Systems Integrator", etc.

While filling in the online EOI I have to select the occupation pertinent to each of my employment records that I enter ... and while I will select "IT Specialist - Systems Analyst", my employment designations will not reflect that.

Now, the main question is ... will INZ accept this ? How do I put across to INZ (both in EOI and ITA applications) what I just laid before you in this post ?

Any IT Professionals out there who can identify with my situation ? More pertinently, anyone out there who feels after reading my post that you have "been there" ... ?

Your comments are so welcome ... :cheers

Thanks,
Sudo

No experience with this, but good luck!

I don't have experience of this particular form, but have previously tackled many others.

Is there any mileage in approaching your former employers and asking for a statement on their headed paper that 'Mr John Doe was employed by us from this date to that date as a Whatever. His duties consisted of x, y and z'? (And obviously, x, y and z would be the things that match up, as you have noticed.) Then you send these statements with your application, putting a large 'Please see attached letters # 1, 2, 3 and 4' in the appropriate place.

I've more than once pretty much dictated what I wanted in the way of a reference like this - written saying, 'Could you please assure them that I had responsibility for ... and ... and it all worked?' and (with it being true) the thing came back in almost exactly my wording.

JandM is right, you would need to get a letter from your employer detailing your job and the title. NZIS have no way of knowing that you haven't been called this in the past, as long as the boss uses that title now. Be careful to make sure they use the right words, I have been caught before by a boss that was pedantic and stuck to old description, and that cost me points.

Job titles were non-issues when I applied for PR as an IT professional. I supplied reference letters from my previous jobs that detailed my responsibilities. INZ didn't have any issues with my application.

Thanks Sharpie ... that really helps !

Just one question though. Did you request your employers for reference letter specifically for the INZ processing ... that is addressed by the employer to NZ Immigration authorities ? Or was it just a general reference letter like a "to whom it may concern" type ?

Accordingly, I will need to get the stuff from my previous employers !

Thanks,
Sudo

Except for one, they were all standard reference letters. The usual "to whom it may concern" type.

The letters should specify your dates of employment, your hours (e.g. that you worked full time, defined as 40 hours a week), and your responsibilities (be detailed). They should be on the company's letterhead.

Furthermore, I also supplied pay slips for some of my previous jobs and year end tax forms (W-2's in the US) to INZ to support my claimed points.
