Dear all
I'm relocating to Auckland for 12 months in May and am trying to decide whether to bring my cat. But I'm concerned that we may not be able to rent a property that will take pets. Has anyone any expeirence of trying to find a property that will?

Hello.:)
Here's a thread which sounds quite optimistic on this point.

We've been getting the latest properties from Trademe for a while now, and most do say no pets. But I have a suspicion that they really mean 'no dogs' and that if you ask about a cat it'll be no problem, or they'll ask for extra bond or something. There a still plenty that explicitly say 'cat okay, no dogs' or even 'pets okay'. It might take you a little longer I suppose, but we're not planning to worry about it. We're planning to have the cats shipped in 2 weeks after we arrive and hoped have rented somewhere by then.

Some motels also take pets, I was lucky enough to find one that would take all 7 of my moggies!
Good luck,

As said already when landlords say no pets some of them really mean no dogs. We have furnished properties in Auckland and probably would have no problems with a cat but definately can't take dogs because of the fencing issue.
Always best to ask the question.

Our land lady excepted us having cat (but no dogs :(), as long as when we move we would have the house steam cleaned.

Thanks to all for the advice. We're planing on taking a couple of weeks holiday en route so have decided to leave the cat with family for a few weeks. That way she avoids a cattery and we can decide when we arrive and have a better idea about houses and how long we'll stay. May be difficult to get her back though!
