Am i the only one who can't get their head around the months and seasons - thought that after 15 months I'd be ok, but I still can't get my head round it - to me its now August time, I had to ask today at a meeting what month we were in it really confuses me, and i have no idea which months are in which season - am I just been thick??!! :o

Same here - someone mentions February and I reach for the woolly jumpers. And as for summer and autumn - don't even ask!

Yeah, I think it's the most disorientating thing about emigrating, apart from the indicators beng where my windscreen wipers used to be.

I'm totally thrown by the idea of it being Easter in a few weeks time.... Easter already? It's still the middle of summer.....

Don't think I'm doing too bad, but did see a building sign recently which said it would be completed by spring 2008 and I thought that it must be running behind schedule as it's already summer....
... but of course spring 2008 is not actually at the begining of the year anymore :yes

... it must be strange having Christmas dinner on the beach in beautiful, warm, sunny conditions :D
Oddly enough, I quite like the idea of being tucked up inside around the Christmas table whilst it's sub-zero temperatures outside :D
I guess we can adjust to the seasons though :)

I was confused by how many of the houses I've been looking at on websites kept mentioning their north-facing side. Why would I care about them being north-facing? Surely you only care about the south fa...oh wait.

Haha yeah I think it's going to be a bit of an adjustment for me too - and may not even seem like Christmas as I'm use to the cold snowy weather that time of year.

I was just thinking about the seasons my self - I said to OH that my next birthday will be in the Spring instead of the Autumn! It's going to take some getting used to.
Oh and it's Mothers day this Sunday in the UK where as it is not till (2nd Sunday) May in NZ.

That's me everyday nearly (indicating to turn using the wipers - doh!!!)
On a positive note, my birthday may be warm and sunny this year instead of.......snow, rain, hail and fog - I've had all of those in the UK!! :wah

I find this quite disorientating too! Christmas snuck up. I keep missing important dates because I haven't got any seasonal cues. Quite interesting really as I've never had a diary but found it invaluable here.

I was looking at houses online the other week. I noticed some boasted about having a North facing garden. I was thinking "why mention that, a north facing garden is nothing to brag about, surely? Oh wait a minute..." I think I'm going to find it very troublesome but amusing to adapt!

I agree 100% with you here Sam. It took me 3 months to get use to the indicators and wiperblades around the other way, Now I am back in UK for 3 months I am having to get use to it around the other way again. Then I am going back to NZ 1st May. So its all change again.Never mind ,at least it will be permanent then.

After years here I still have problems with seasons - and as spring and autumn are generally both very mild (spring is wetter), I get very confused.
I hate having my birthday in the middle of winter too. I miss having a party in the garden.

That's something that hadn't even occurred to me. Mine will be in mid summer :cheers

My birthday is in mid-June. All through my childhood, against painful experience, my mother used to plan parties with tea in the garden (and games, when I was younger).:roll We have dozens of underexposed photos (from the days before everyone could do flash pictures) with all the visitors crammed indoors while the rain poured down.
When we get to NZ, maybe I'll have birthday teas with everyone crammed indoors because we meant it that way, and that's what you do in midwinter!

Having the sun in the North completely confused my sense of direction. It took me ages to sort out East and West - and the constellation Orion still looks weird upside down :laugh

Orion? Upside down? I was wondering where all the constellations had gone. But here's one, what if we're the right way up and everyone else is the wrong way round?

When we were here on our honeymoon in 2006 I had to phone my daughter up to tell her which way the water went down the plug hole :D

According to Stephen Fry on QI, it's a myth that water goes down the plughole the other way round. Since when I was there, I couldn't remember which way it does it at home, I wasn't able to check for myself.
