Hi,

We are claiming points on my husbands form for my Chartered Accountant qualification, I am also a member of ICAEW. Would this need an assessment by NZQA - I can't seem to find anything about it on any of the lists. Is it worth doing a Pre-Assessment or is this just a waste of money?

Please note I do not have a degree and started studying for the qualification after A-Levels via the Chartered Accountants firm that I worked for.

Thanks
Jenny

Pre-Assessment is always a waste of money... you will always be asked for a full assessment anyway...

I wouldn't have thought your husband's ICAEW qualifiction would need assessing if its a degree route entry but someone far better placed than me can clarify that from a immigration points view

You may have looked at this already but the NZ Institutes pages contain info re recipricol arrangments for entry into NZICA membership here:-
http://www.nzica.com/AM/Template.cfm?Section=Recognition_of_Overseas_Study

Your issue may be as you haven't got a degree they may wish you to do more study than if you had a UK degree unfortunately. Most countries aside from the UK have a degree entry level requirement before you can study as a professional accountant

Best of luck

Hi Davvie

I am CIMa qualified and have had to have my qualification assessed so far its been a month and thats the fast track, ICAEW is recognised by the NEw Zealand Chartered Accountants however this does not mean NZQA recognise it also you may have to do a conversion ie tax exams its woth looking at the New Zealand charterd site!
NZQA are a rule to themselves, do not do a pre assessment as this is a waste of money and NZIS will only require a full one for your ITA as well
best of luck

Hi Janey,

Thanks for your reply.

I get the impression that the only thing NZQA are good for is taking our money!!!:laugh

I hope that you get yours back soon.

I am a member of ICAEW and didn't need a pre assessment. To be a member of NZICA you have to sit two papers, law and tax ,to convert.
I seem to recall claiming points for a degree and also being a member of ICAEW. I then just sent in a copy of my degree cert & membership cert and there were no problems.

I am a CIMA too and am about to submit the EOI. You had to have your CIMA qualification assessed by NZQA? I have asked and read anything I can get my hands on about this and am unable to get an answer untill now. Janey, your're a saviour. Finally someone with a CIMA!!!
From what I understand here, NZIS requires a full assessment for the CIMA qualification? In Malaysia, we do do the CIMA stright after A levels without a first degree.
Did you do your assessment for the EOI submission or only for your ITA? I am targating to submit my EOI mid Sept and a assessment would never in time for it.:wah

What was your time line like?

Sorry for the strings of questions but thank you for any help you can give

Cheers,
A

Jenny - am I corrrect in thinking your Husband is the main applicant and you're just going for the extra 10 points (or whatever it is ) for your qualification? That's what we did and I didn't need any qualification assessment at all as I wasn't the principal applicant. We simply submitted a copy of my ACA certificate with our ITA to prove I had the qual. Don't know if rules have changed since we applied so it may be worth a call to them to check.

Hi Amy71,
I had a job offer and EI selected which then fell through on talking to NZIS they said I would need it fully assessed so I did this while waiting for our house to sell even fast tracked took 6 weeks, if you are an associate and still have you work experience log include this it helps!
good luck

Dear Jane,

Thank you for your reply.

My OH is the principal applicant and I am the accompaning spouse. His qualification is from the US and is in the NZIS list as a recognised qualification. We are claiming the 20points for my qualification. I have a job offer and have been an Associate member for the past 10years. I was just thinking about applying for the FCMA.

If i understand you correctly, EOI selected and WTR issued? I read somewhere that even if EOI selected, sometimes NZIS issues WTR instead of direct PR application. Am I correct? In which case, the family would not be included in the application?

We are definitly submitting our EOI for the next selection without my CIMA assessment. Anyone know the date? 13Sept?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,
Amy
