Hi
Anyone used lensesonline.co.nz recently? Just had my first lens check since leaving the UK and was charged $120 for 2 boxes of 6. Reeling slightly I've come straight home for an online search and the cheapest I've found are the above who would charge $72 incl. delivery for the same lenses. What a saving! So any one used them?

Hi there,

I also noticed that there's a few traders on trade me.

Do you mind me asking how much your lens check was. I'm having to have the works (had a great plan to have laser eye surgery, but I've got a bong left eye) and keep getting quoted lots of different prices for eye/contact check.

I'm in a complete huff with my local optician. Really unprofessional. i actually thought she was the receptionist (and not a very good one) when I first went in. I'd called before hand to ask about costs and was quoted $69 for the eye check $89 to include contact check. I only booked the eye check and then inquired about the contact again and was told $200 !!!! And yes I did scream "$200.....just for the appointment!". I'm so disappointed by the service, I've written off the $69 to experience. :( I've spoken to lots of opticians and prices seem to vary from around $89-$150 for both the eye and contact check.

I was quite impressed by an optician in Newmarket, who I think I'll go to for a second opinion.

Anyhoo, sorry didn't mean to rant :o

My contact lens check was $68 which also included a normal eye test too to check my glasses (even though I didn't ask for that). Very thorough and that included a new set of lenses to test and a follow up test a week later to check the comfort etc of the new lens. Sounds like that was quite reasonable then! I used Visique (Harringtons). Even had a photo taken of my eyeballs which I'd never had before.

Hubby got glasses from these folks and they have been good

They also do the examinations on site too if you happen to be nearby!

ooohhh what to do now. Just called Visique (the one on Quay St) and they quoted $80 (all in). The place in New Market seemed really professional, but I could have been slightly influenced by the dishy salesman :)

Think I'll try Visique, cause they're just across the road from the ferry.

Thanks for the link Sal.....not really my neck of the woods though.

Yes I've used them for a couple of years, they're very good. I dont have a credit card and do a direct payment, when I left it to the last minute they even sent me the lenses before the payment reached their account. I pay $27 for 30 daily disposables, by far the cheapest I've found.

I use www.clearlycontacts.co.nz for ordering my lenses online.

I go to a great optometrist in Ponsonby for my eye checks now (having previously used the optometry services at Auckland hospital). They were very thorough and it was about $80 for the check-up.

You know, the more I think about that optician, the more annoyed I get.

The appointment only lasted 15mins (quickest eye check I've ever had by far!) and half of that was her repeatedly insisting I keep trying to read lines on the chart that I couldn't. FFS you can either read the bl**dy letters or you can't. They're not going to suddenly stand out at me if I "try harder" :roll

Sorry..... ranting again.

Note to self...never go for an eye check with raging PMT

Has anybody ordered lenses directly from the UK? Does it work out cheaper? Do they charge import duty?

I'm still ordering from Specsavers. Whilst they don't do international delivery, just get them sent to M&D who willingly forward them on. No problems with MAF, customs and no import duty. I use the excellent easyvison all day all night. Have therefore stocked up a six month supply.

Have to say on a different tack, I had no end of problems with my lenses when we first arrived in Wellington - put it down to the incessant wind ! however they seemed to have gradually settled down. Plus there hasn't been a day since we landed that I haven't worn my sunglasses. NZ is a very bright place!

Does anybody use highly gas-permeable hard lenses, and have good or bad to tell of their practitioner? (I don't make enough tears to wear soft lenses comfortably.)
