Hi All,

I'm going to be landing into Auckland on Monday afternoon and I'll be looking for a place to drop my bags. The following week, if I don't have anything solid, I plan on going to Wellington.

I'll be aggressively looking for work (IT Professional) while I'm there so would prefer to stay out of the hostel/backpacker environment until I get a job. I'm 26 btw for what it's worth.

I'm looking for websites/companies who rent rooms on a short term basis, perhaps 3 days to a week. I'll basically need a living area where I can job search with my laptop, and where I can get a bit of peace and quite in the evenings. Nothing extravagant, I just don't want to worry about my belongings or have to tip/toe around 10 other people in a dorm.

Any ideas?
Cheers in Advance
Kev.

Hey,

theres a couple of recent threads around with useful auckland based acoomodation (motels and hotels that aren't too expensive) if you do a quick search they should come up :) or even easier - go to this bit of the forum: http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=18 and scroll down - i spotted a couple a bout halfway down...

not sure on the wellington side though sorry.

My husand was looking for IT work & in Wellington he stayed at Aitken on Mulgrave in Wellington. This was a fantastic place to stay as when I came with our son we also stayed there short-term until our rental was available. The walls were very thick as our son was quite loud but we had no complaints & I know there was a baby in the room opposite that we never heard. It had good broadband connection as we used it to for Skype. The staff couldn't have been more helpful & they would fax things for my husband without charge & kept contracts secure that were being delivered. Even when I didn't get round to washing up our stuff when we returned from our sightseeing it had all been done. The apartments are on Thorndon which is a really nice place to stay (round the corner from the Beehive). There is also a Stanley Road next door (cafe with nice food) & a great Italian restaurant close by. The Thistle Inn bar is round the corner also. He was also able to pay for parking in a secure car-park. I don't know where he stayed in Auckland but he found it to be soul-less & lonely as the Auckland CBD is deserted once all the offices close. Wellington however is alive all the time with fab bars, coffee bars & restaurants. There is a lot of IT work in Wellington & don't be put off by hearing its too windy. Its not windy all the time & we've had a fantastic summer. Watch all the people coming out of the offices at lunchtime in their running gear as they troop out onto the sea front. I've never seen anything like it before, although it makes you feel quite guilty as you sit outside Shed 5 having a great seafood lunch. Good luck with anything & if you need any other info on Wellington just let us know.
