Help!
I've just broken the news to our 5 year old son that we are off to NZ to live come the summer hols. He's taken it extremely well for now. The only snag we've got is his toys. We had planned to box up some of his toys to send over however, he keeps mentioning the "big" toys ie garage, train track etc...
coming "'cos he loves them so so much"
Therefore, I was hoping someone might have some space I could use just for a few toys.
We live in Cardiff but are happy to travel/pay
Many thanks in advance

Why dont you see how much it would cost to post a box over ? We are from Neath and used Britannia, but there is a company called Seven Seas up in England that i have heard mentioned too.
May be pricey though ??
We brought 12 boxes and had my sister to post his favourite toys over (mind you just a handful though!)
We had to leave some bigger toys as we just couldnt fit them in.
Are you not bringing anything else with you ? just travelling light ?
Not meaning to be nosey!

Hi Sharon
Thanks for your advice. I have always planned to box up some of his toys but there are a number of bigger items I know will cost the earth to send. As we are renting our house out my husband (who comes from Neath!) and I have planned to come with just our suitcases so we can "start afresh without the clutter/rubbish".
I've also got a 2 year old son but he is happy to play with his older brothers toys rather than his so I am not worried about him.
Thanks agin berni

I can't help with space, as I'm already here! But I completely understand wanting to bring some familiar things for the children. Taking a child's fave duvet cover or pillowcase is another easy way to make them feel at home, even when they are not. The pillowcase can even be used in hotel situations.
If you can't get space, you could always look up how much they cost to buy here:

www.iqtoys.co.nz
www.trademe.co.nz
Or I know quite a few people who have promised their kids a trampoline or bike when they get to NZ, or some other larger toy that they didn't have already. Might me worth considering if other options look a bit pricey.

I remember reading on a recent post that some people used Fedex or similar to post large parcels from UK to NZ. I am afraid I am not sure how to post a link to another thread (still practicing the art of forum posting) but it was in 'The Lounge'. If wonder if the postal rates in question would be of any use to you?

That's exactly what we did and now have trampoline in the garden :nice1
However, they do have far too many toys coming out in the container too. Good thing was that we just used money they got for Christmas to buy it and of course took all the credit :D

The trampoline that mine got for Christmas was the BEST present ever - they are never off it, and they are so cheap here. I would consider some kind of bargaining on the toy front.

Of course, i totally understand, thats what we did, came with 6 cases and shipped over 12 boxes.
Perhaps its a case of having a phone around for some quotes and see how you go. Perhaps it may be an option to get quote from Post Office too but we aware they are pricey and only certain weights on some things.
I know only too well how it feels, out 5yr old was beside himself when i made the first attempt at clearing his bedroom, it was awful.........like he was gone/dead. I broke my heart!
Good luck and keep in touch - PM me where in Neath he is from, as hubby lived there all his life and its not that big a place!
