Hi there.

1) Generally its 50Kmph (30mph) in the cities and 100Kmph (60mph) on the open roads.

2) Not sure about this one - never tried it.

3) Varies a lot. Some parks and most beaches have liquor bans - particularly around Christmas / New Year periods - but I've seldom seen this rigidly enforced. Usually, liquor bans are in place to stop drunken yobs annoying people - if it's a sunny day and you turn up at a park with a picnic and a couple of beers, I doubt if anyone would be bothered too much.

4) Smoking is banned in all shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, workplaces etc - and on all public transport. Many pubs have outdoor areas though and you're generally allowed to smoke in those.

If only the rest of the world would catch up with this law. NZ is doing very well here, in my personal opinion.

I second that and am so happy smoking has been banned in public places in my state. I was in Ireland last St. Paddy's and they have the same laws...so yeah hoping the rest of the world catches on :)
