Is it completely useless to bring wrench and socket sets from the US that are all in inch sizing? Are cars, bicycles, household furnishings, etc all fitted with metric sized bolts/nuts? Or like Canada and the US, do you have a mix?
Thanks---

I would bring them although most are metric size, unless its an old car from the UK and USA that may still have some imperial size.

Bring as many as you can, lots of imperial sizes on jap cars, a throwback to when they copied things. There are many imperial/ metric crossovers anyway, 19mm= 3/4, 7/16= 11mm. Anyway, decent tools very expensive down here so my advice is pack the lot!

I dont know about cars etc, but as a Sparkie i have needed to use imperial sockets a few times. And of course depending how important your bolt is, then a 1/2" is pretty good fit to a 13mm, and so on etc....
So i would def bring them over! Especially as in my experience American made tools are very good quality! (i usually go for either German or American made tools for great tools!)

Bring them all! My hubby has a mix of everything, and uses it all! - the packers couldn't believe how many tool boxes one man had!! They said it was the heaviest domestic move they had ever done!!!
However having said that one of the first jobs he had to do - he was stuck for the right tool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A square ended screwdriver!!!! Did I rib him about that - 'all those toolboxes you brought and you haven't got a screwdriver .....................................' :laugh

Thanks all. I will bring them then!
Lee: We're headed to Welly in a few months. If you want any American tools, let me know and I'd be happy to pick them up and bring them over for you!

I perused the tool section at the local Bunnings (NZ version of Lowes or Home Depot) a couple days ago.
A plain, genuine Visegrips was $60!!!!
Bring your tools!
I used the move as an excuse to sell all my hand power tools and replace them with cordless tools. I only need a small transformer for the charger.
I wish I had stocked up on basic hardware, as that is also expensive here.
Good luck with your move.
