One of those heaters filled with oil, with fins and plugged into the electric. I've used them before but need another one now....unfortunately, I have been to two Warehouses, one Mitre 10 and one Briscoes and was unable to find any for sale. Dehumidifiers, desk fans and patio heaters- take your pick. This was mid February though so perhaps retailers thought it wasn't yet cold enough for people to need them. Well, now it is! :laugh

Yep, they do sell out fast as soon as a cold spell hits.

We got ours from Briscoes in April of last year. They tend to wait until nearer the season. I would say in a couple of weeks there should be plenty of them. Even Pak'n save had them last year. Ask someone in the store and they may be able to tell you when they are expecting them

We got ours from the Warehouse about April last year plus we bought a gas heater there too, just remember that you buy the canister empty there for your heater and then have to get it filled at local petrol station...........we thought it was funny at the time!

We got ours from Noel Leeming:

and Hammer Hardware.
If you know a brand name just search for it in Google NZ and some online shops should come up.

Thanks all, I've found that Noel Leeming do have them :) And there's some good choice on trademe also. By the time I get out to go shopping on the weekend there'll likely be a a Northwesterly flow again!
In the meantime it's a chance to man up and wrap myself in a wool blanket (17c indoors which isn't exactly horrendous, but just shy of comfortable IMO).

Wow, thanks Sharon.
I actually bought an LPG bottle for the BBQ yesterday from Pack & Save, I thought it seemed incredibly light at the time but then they all were.
Now I know why.:laugh
Thanks to the rain in the bay, we haven’t actually tried to use it yet, the food would have taken ages to cook.
The thing actually says 9kg on it; I can’t believe I was so unbelievably stupid.
Now; has anyone got any idea where I can get a long wait?;)
Best Wishes:nice1

Argos. Don't think they deliver that far though. We're bringing a bunch with us. We're so going to miss central heating.

Don't forget to make sure they have timers - nothing worse than having to jump out of bed in the freezing cold to turn the heater on!
Also wheels are helpful, as is a reasonable length cord.
We've got various different types, (just remembered we bought one from Farmers also), and I have found the higher voltage (more expensive ones) are worth the investment.

Are they OK to use in NZ, you know the whole voltage thing? I thought I read on here somewhere that they take too much but I could very well be wrong, just wanted to bring it up in case! Wish we had!

Don't want to hijack the thread but just wanted to know in everyones opinion is the best way to heat a small single room?
Baby coming in June & worried how cold it might be in a room with no heat at the mo at all.

GeorgeBulldog -
Use a dehumidifier first, then an oil filled radiator will work better.
Thick curtains - get insulating strip for round the windows if necessary.
Carpet, if you've got wooden floorboards to stop upwards drafts.
We've always use a baby sleeping bag, that way if you are feeding them in the middle of the night they stay nice and warm.
One of those snakes for the bottom of the door.
Talking of babies, my youngest has just woken up from his nap :exit
Hope this helps!
Cheers

As mentioned by others, this is one item that you need to check to ensure that is is worth bringing.
In UK, many heaters are rated at 3kW which is just under 13A where in NZ the normal house electrical wiring is only rated at 10A or 2.4kW.

Seriously? That's barely enough to run a vacuum cleaner! I'll check. Thanks for the heads-up.
