Hi -
We are trying to make the decision between PSS and JohnMason. There is hardly any feedback on PSS on these forums... is this a good thing or not?!

I used them to ship my stuff from Essex to Wellington. Packers were great - can't tell you any more at this stage cos the container is somewhere between Singapore and Auckland at present. I chose PSS on the recommendation of friends and other forums.

Thanks!
We have also heard good things about PSS from word of mouth but mainly from friends moving from NZ to the UK.
Will be interested to know how you get on with NZ Van Lines.. hope everything goes smoothly!. Have you been able to track your shipment so far?

We used PSS great packers. Only one item damaged my hubbies motorbike but only cosmetic & we think it was done this end. Insurance paid out within 14 days so happy hubby again. :D

We used PSS (got a voucher at the expo), packing in UK (London) was good, our team even cleaned stuff for us free of charge, and I think they had a reasonably priced insurance deal.

They used NZ Vanlines in NZ, not so good, pretty much wanted to dump the stuff and run.

We had one box go missing, (in a shared container, never saw it again and didn't manage to get our claim in in time, so never saw any compensation either).

One thing they did, which was a bit of a rip off, (this was a couple of years ago), is charge insurance for stuff in storage by the calendar month. So if you put your stuff in on the 29th March till 2nd May you would have to pay for 12 weeks instead of the 5 weeks.

Overall I'd say we had a good experience, they were several hundred cheaper than the other quotes, (and a lot cheaper than Crown!) and we lost one box worth £200.

It is all very dependent on the team you get on the day as there can be a lot variation between different areas with the national companies.

Cheers

Tia

We found them really good both ends. If you can say so and so recommended us to you then both service UK and NZ were unbeatable. NZ Van Lines with us were informative and had our stuff with us in 3 days from landing, couple of near misses where they thought something was going to be a lot lighter than it was but then that's just the guys not the actual company :D

How do these companies manage to lose boxes with such frightening regularity?? It seems like we almost have to plan on losing at least one boxful of our goods during the process, purely on a statistical basis. Where the heck do they go??

Do the statistics show that more boxes go missing when they are part of groupage rather than a 'sole use' container? I'd be dead curious and worried if boxes went missing from a sealed container.

Yes but they don't update the track and trace site regularly enough. For example, due to changing vessels at a later date than planned, the website shows it is due into Auckland on 17 March but arriving by train into Wellington on 14 March!!

Hi,

We were looking at the same thing. Want to ship over about 20 tea chest sized boxes.

PSS £995 plus Ins
John Mason £495 plus Ins
Anglo Pacific £850 plus Ins

A huge price range!!

Still don't know if John Mason are any good???

Tim.

We got quite a range as well..but we had heard very good things about PSS from family friends so I rang them up and haggled them down to match the lowest quote.. its worth a try..

ok, so NZ Van Lines are rubbish and The Moving Company are rubbish.. but dont we basically have the choice of the two unless we go with Crown who ship the whole way themselves?.
Are there any other alternatives?
