We'll soon be ordering (well, in a month) our NZ currency for our 'recce' trip, so I was just wondering where forum members are going for the current best deals... thanks :)

Whenever we got currency would always check out the Post Office as they gave very good rates with low or zero fees depending on the offers, so would definitely check them out as an option.

Also, as NZ retailers accept EFTPOS and credit cards for almost any transaction, then most of the time you can just use a good credit card such as offered by Nationwide, which saves you having to carry too much cash around etc. You can always use it to draw cash from any cashpoint machine when you need some.

Thanks Ian... we too tend to use the Post Office, and also Thomas Cook.

I hear what you're saying with regards a credit card, however I'm always suspect with using them abroad at cashpoints, etc (mainly due to unknown exchange rates)... much rather have travellers cheques and some cash handy on arrival.

I was surprised when the assistant in Thomas Cook said that NZ don't have their own travellers cheques, it's either OZ Dollars or £ Sterling :roll ... reckon we'll get £ Sterling travellers cheques and see what exchange rate we get when we're out there.
