I haven't checked this out myself but my daughter who is preparing to travel out to NZ next month has sorted her stuff to send via Seven Seas (thanks to info from this forum). She's flying with Emirates and e-mailed them to ask about baggage allowance on the plane. They replied with an e-mail directing her to www.movingplanet.net where, apparently, if you register and log-in you get told about the offer of an extra 30kgs. There are conditions such as over 12 month visa etc but it may be worth checking out. Good luck and hope this makes sense.

It varies between airlines anyway - some offer you upto 60kgs each anyway, most 40kgs.
I looked at the site you linked to and it appears to be a pay site, and you need to be a member to access the content. Hard to be sure as the registration system didn't seem to work properly.

I think you get membership through your shipping/moving company - we never used it but a mate of our's did and think they got some discounts etc on things when they arrived in NZ. Not sure about the baggage thing though..

I would be so interested about getting extra baggage allowance - we fly out on 15 March with Emirates . Our furntiure was packed up yesterday and have now realized that my clothes - had to be mine - have not been packed and so we now trying to get all the extra clothes into our 20 kg allowance. Has anyone got some brilliant advise for me on what we can do? I have my old floppy doll that might have to be left behind and thats sending me to tears and OH running around trying to make me feel better!!!!

Hi Jayne, how awfull - you could always go for extra baggage allowance, especially if there is sentimental value?

Jayne, AFAIK, Emirates allow you 40 kgs per person anyway, so long as you have the visa. Check their website.
And don't forget you could always post any lightweight items to yourself.

Thanks CJ22 - I thought you had to purchase an Immigration ticket from Emirates to allow you to have the 40 kg baggage - I tried looking on the web site of Emirates to see what they allow but could not find anything . I presume it is only 20 kg! Thanks anyway.

an email I had from emirates said
If you have made a booking and not yet had tickets issued, please contact whomever made the reservation for it to be altered before the tickets are issued.
worth trying if you did it through an agency, you'll need to get them to enquire about the baggage allowance for passengers migrating to Australia/New Zealand (an additional allowance of 20kgs per adult/child (meaning 40kgs in total per adult/child)
the moving planet site seems to be free (I joined, they send me spam sometimes and have not asked for any money)

Thanks Dusk - we did our bookings on the internet and received our itinerary on the email - but there is no mention of the baggage allowance .

Whatever won't go into your cases - post or ship it. (We did that with what we wanted to bring back from NZ to the UK after our trip last year, upon discovering that excess baggage on the aircraft would be charged at something like 34 GBP per kilo - ! Sending it in two parcels was about a third the price.) Even if you don't know where you'll be living, you can send it to Poste Restante, and whichever post office you designate will hold it till you collect it.

We posted some stuff which wouldn't go in the cases (end December) and we're still waiting for it to arrive....

So did I, and when I phoned Emirates I was told that any additional baggage allowance was only available for people emigrating to Australia, not NZ.
I fly out on the 18th March. Four months away from the rest of my family... :(

We emmigrated last year with Emirates and had 40kgs, had to phone them up and e-mail copies of passports showing visas (PR)

Thanks for all the advise - dont think I can risk sending my clothes via SA postal service - better I get rid of it - doubt it will ever get to NZ. Tks anyway
