Quick question...
Does every applicant have to attend an interview at New Zealand House, London, or is a random selection made?
OH has it in his head that every applicant is interviewed, regardless...
Cheers

as with most things, it depends - I think the interviews are generally for applicants without job offers, but not being one of those people I can't say for sure if everyone without a job offer is asked for interview or not....

Unsure sorry, we certainly didnt and wonder if yes it it a random selection if you havent a job offer.
I am sure someone on here will be able to help you!
We geared ourselves up for an interview when we got here, as we applied for EOI and PR when we got here, but things just went along smoothly.
Good luck and let us know how it goes if you do !

AFAIK, you would normally only require an interview if you haven't secured a job offer i.e. they want to talk to you to confirm if you will be able to settle in NZ. If the interview goes bad then you are most likely to only be offered a WTR.
Also, I don't think you are required to personally attend an interview i.e. they just arrange a time and talk to you over the phone.

Hi,
We had no job offer and had an interview. It was a phone interview that was pre arranged at a set time, and our Case Officer only wanted to speak to the principal applicant.

PLease let us know anything that may be relevant in the interview. Not personal details, just the type of questions or areas they want to look at.
thanks

Hi Rusty,
My boyfriend was the principal applicant so am afraid I can't be specific about exactly what he was asked as I wasn't present however before the interview we got a list of probable questions (can't remember where we got them, could have been from this forum!!). Anyway, I remember my bf saying the questions were similar to the list we had, and I seem to recall that the CO asked alot about what we would do to settle in/integrate/make friends.
Anyway here's the list of questions:
Why did you choose NZ
What would you do as soon as you arrive in NZ i.e. do you have a plan
What accommodation plans do you have in place for when you first arrive
What have you done to research the cost of living and housing prices
Where will you live.
What have you done to decide where you would like to live
What kind of research have you done about NZ and what have you found out about the place
Has anyone given you any advice about moving to NZ
What will you do if you don't get a job as quickly as you would have hoped
What have you done to look for employment so far
How long do you think it would take you to find work and how do you intend to find it.
What have you done to research the NZ job market in your field
What do you think will be the biggest barriers to finding a job
What will you do if you can't find a job in your field
What will your OH do for a living.
What if you do not find work in the area that you have chosen to live.
How do you plan to make friends
Do you know anyone in New Zealand
What sort of support would you have in NZ e.g. do you have any family/friends there.
How much money do you think you’d need to make a good living
How will you support yourselves
Do you have support from your family.
How you will overcome barriers that you encounter
Have you looked into schools
What hobbies do you have
When do you want to go
Is there anything you want to add to support your application
Questions Cribbed from another forum:
Mainly how do you plan to make friends
How do you intend to find work
What will your Partner do for a living.
What steps will you make to find work and friends.
What if you do not find work in the area that you have chosen to live.
How will you support yourselves
Where will you live.
When do you want to go
Do you know people over there
What have you heard about NZ
Has anyone given you any advice about moving to NZ
Do you have support from your family.
They def ask you how you will overcome barriers that you encounter
Schools
Hobbies
Hope that helps,
Clare :D

There's a lot of 'what are you going to do to make a living' questions there, which suggest it's geared towards those going without job offers.

Bunstar, thanks for the list. It will help a lot.:clap
CJ22, I read that you have an interview to see how well you will settle/contribute if you don't have a job. So you are right in that only those without a job will need one.
